Summary of Position 

The Content Director will lead and set the enterprise content strategy and editorial calendar in support of Global Communications initiatives in support of a consistent narrative, customer experience and to build Lilly brand reputation.  

 

To support these efforts, the Content Director will lead and direct an in-house content team who will serve as the primary steward of Lilly’s “voice” for the enterprise. The Content Director will manage the creation of long and short-form written, oral and video content and will establish and enforce standards and guidelines for content published on multiple corporate platforms reaching key audiences and geographies.  

 

The Content Director will partner with the Directors of Creative and Channel to execute content strategies, communications plans and campaigns aligned with the Lilly brand and narrative. 

 

The Content Director should be prepared to provide additional support as needed for Lilly Global Communications, including managing complex internal and external initiatives and vendors. 

 

The position will be located in Indianapolis, reporting to the Senior Director of Creative, Content and Channel. 

 

Key Objectives/Deliverables 


  • Collaborates closely with the Creative and Channel Directors, as well as the Global Enterprise and Reputation teams, subject matter experts and project managers to deliver work that aligns to Lilly’s objectives and drives results. 


  • In partnership with the Senior Director of Creative, Content and Channel, defines and executes on team priorities and budget. 


  • Establish Service Level Agreement-style operating model to define in scope and out-of-scope responsibilities most effectively. 


  • In partnership with the Creative and Content Directors, BUCA communications and communications lead team, provide direction and enforces the editorial strategy for the corporation. 


  • Serves as the primary owner and steward of the Lilly “voice” and consults regularly with internal and external partners to ensure written and verbal content developed outside of the team is consistent with that voice. 



  • Using the corporate narrative and Lilly’s objectives, oversees and develops messaging and content for speeches, live events, press releases, internal announcements and for digital channels.  


  • Leads and oversees day-to-day operations of in-house content team ensuring efficient and effective workflow, managing quality and timing to avoid editorial conflicts, and gauging effectiveness of content to ensure it remains compelling to audiences. 


  • Identifies and drives operational efficiencies in the messaging/content development process to meet project and team needs including planning templates, content briefs and review processes. 


  • Reviews/approves corporate content created in support of departments, programs and initiatives across the enterprise. Ensures Lilly communications’ quality standards as well as legal, regulatory and privacy compliance of content. 


  • Oversees and provides recommendations for contract writing and video production services utilized by corporate affairs and others. 



  • Consults with employees, agencies and vendors who need to understand and apply the Lilly voice consistently. 


  • Champion team members in seeking development opportunities and cross-function back up. 


 

Basic Qualifications 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, English, or a related field. 


  • Minimum of 10 years of agency and/or in-house experience creating content for print media, digital and social for a corporate brand. 


  • Minimum of 8 years writing experience. 


 

Additional Skills/Preference 


  • Experience supervising teams with proven ability to inspire and motivate. 


  • Outstanding portfolio of writing and/or video content demonstrating ability to tell compelling stories. 


  • Advanced understanding of AP style and ability to edit and write for a variety of channels including social/digital, speech, video, podcast, etc. Media relations experience for a large organization. 


  • Ability to combine business strategy, brand strategy and customer insight to create content for internal and external audiences. 


  • Advanced understanding of corporate review processes, legal and regulatory guidelines as well as MS Office Suite, and other relevant software. 



  • Understanding of and experience with new and established social media platforms. 


  • Ability to interface professionally and persuasively with corporate leaders and managers and ability to negotiate solutions. 


  • Experience working globally and externally preferred. 


  • Demonstrated ability to apply practical or technical knowledge where no direction is given. 


  • Strong organization and project management skills. 



  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and deal with rapidly changing priorities and timelines. 


  • Knowledge and understanding of key marketplace factors for pharmaceuticals, as well as critical business issues and drivers. 


  • Meticulous attention to detail. 


  • Ability to think quickly, analytically to accommodate a dynamic communications environment. 


  • Understanding of and experience with CMS and UX design principles. 


  • Works well under pressure, responds to feedback well and keeps a positive attitude. 

 

Additional Information 

Some international and domestic travel expected as conditions and business need arise. 

 

Located in Indianapolis or telecommute from other US location.
