Developing premium audio systems for the automotive industry has never been more complex and challenging. Industry trends, vehicle architecture lifecycles, and changes in the competitive landscape are dramatically impacting premium audio and infotainment.

To maintain and improve our competitiveness in this market, Bose Automotive needs to enhance our ability to collaborate and leverage external hardware development partners. We are looking for an experienced External Hardware Development Manager who can establish best practices, build relationships, and drive results through deep collaboration, strong program management, and extensive knowledge of product development and electronics manufacturing processes.

In this role, you will work closely with Senior Engineering Leaders and Manufacturing and Global Supply Chain personnel to create new approaches to selecting, sourcing, and managing third parties as part of our electronics product development process. Managing multiple efforts in parallel as a portfolio of projects with multiple third parties will be a longer-term strategic responsibility of this role.

The focus of the role will be to ensure the effective and efficient development of new electronics products. New processes and oversight will be needed to establish standards for 3rd parties to create and perform architecture, design, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototype builds, integration, and testing.

The ideal candidate can drive complex development efforts while maintaining productive relationships with key personnel at third party partners. Influencing and collaborating with partners to create a shared sense of ownership is foundational to this role's success.

Responsibilities include:


  • Establish and maintain a process to ensure 3rd party electronics product development financial, schedule, quality, and performance deliverables are met


  • Lead the creation and evolution of our External HW Development strategy in collaboration with Automotive product development personnel


  • Benchmark and collaborate with other divisions within Bose for how joint electronics development work is effectively managed


  • Build relationships with 3rd parties to clearly set expectations for communication and deliverables


  • Review and maintain selection criteria for 3rd parties to ensure consistent quality and deliverables


  • Lead and collaborate with Systems Engineering, Product Planning, and Procurement teams to ensure clear request for quote creation for each new electronics development


  • Create and maintain an approach to managing a portfolio of electronics product development projects and programs


  • Serve as an escalation point for development effort challenges for internal project teams and 3rd parties


  • Drive consistency with our internal electronics development processes where possible via close collaboration with the electronics development team


  • Define and maintain a development partner scorecard for to assess and monitor development capabilities and growth over time


  • Ensure Bose and external project interfaces and interactions are well defined and working collaboratively to execute development projects


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, industrial, or related engineering disciplines


  • 15+ years product development experience in electronics and/or manufacturing


  • Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration with global teams


  • Experience managing strategic relationships with external stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, partners, etc.


  • Experience and certification with Lean Enterprise principles


  • Strong business acumen and skilled in negotiation


  • Ability to work independently within a given framework and prioritize with the global team


  • Effective communication skills


  • Must be a process thinker with the ability to lead change and resolve conflicts
