What we do:

The Markets Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York implements monetary policy on behalf of the Federal Reserve System and acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury. The Treasury Markets (TM) Directorate monitors and executes transactions in the U.S. government securities market.

It transacts in the Treasury market to fulfill monetary policy directives through open market operations, and other essential operations such as SOMA securities lending and trade execution for CBIAS customers. It also conducts extensive analytical work on fixed-income markets, with a focus on the yield curve, interest rate volatility, inflation markets, issue-specific financing markets, liquidity, and market structure. The Directorate also advises the U.S. Treasury on debt management policy, reports to the Inter-Agency Working Group on Treasury market surveillance matters, and manages numerous other important relationships to gather information and further the Federal Reserve's goals.

Your role as a Policy & Market Analysis Senior Analyst:


  • Your work will involve the maintenance and analysis of Treasury market and operational data. Opportunities to contribute to market monitoring and analysis may also be available for candidates. More specifically, you will:

    • Maintain, improve, and build a variety of critical datasets and tools that support operations in and analysis of the Treasury market;
    • Develop an understanding of Treasury market data sources, such as trade data including TRACE for Treasuries. Work toward integrating those data sources with the team's daily activities. This may include integrating data into Spotfire dashboards or using other business intelligence tools;
    • Assist senior staff members with ad-hoc projects related to both operations and market analysis, focusing on data analysis;
    • Help execute Treasury market operations including Outright purchases, Rollovers, SOMA securities lending and trades for CBIAS customers;
    • Analyze and report on developments in the Treasury market, as these developments relate to expectations for monetary policy, inflation, and the effects of fiscal policy decisions;
    • Assist management and senior staff members with planning and implementing the annual Treasury conference

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, finance, computer science, math, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience managing and manipulating complex data sets.
  • Experience with Microsoft excel (can perform complex functions) and Microsoft Access
  • Knowledge of the following tools: SQL, VBA, MATLAB, R, SpotFire, or OneTick;
  • Familiarity with financial markets and monetary policy including the ability to discuss the basic roles of the Fed;
