Job Description:

The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) is currently seeking a skilled Distribution Engineering Technician III (Staking Technician) to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. The Distribution Engineering Team at EWEB is a vital part of ensuring the Eugene community and surrounding areas receive affordable and reliable electricity. You will have the opportunity to work in both rural and urban environments, including a secondary network system.

The selected candidate will work in a team environment to perform both technical office and field tasks to support the design, construction, and maintenance of electric distribution systems and facilities. Typical responsibilities include:


  • Working closely with customer, agencies, and operations maintenance personnel to process requests for and provide guided assistance in the design of electric distribution systems

  • Preparation of design, material needs, records, contracts, permits, notices, and technical problem solving

  • Organizing, scheduling, and maintaining records for ongoing projects within the service area assignment

  • Preparing cost estimates, economic analysis, and project authorizations

  • Responding to inquiries and problems relating to utility services, rates, codes, etc.

  • Providing communications, coordination, and information relating to EWEB services, policies, rates, procedures, designs, etc. with customers, developers, contractors, agencies, and the general public

  • Preparing special reports and studies relating to procedures, practices, forecasts, forms and material, labor and equipment cost studies, etc.

  • Meeting with inspectors and customers in pre-construction meetings to ensure each has the standards and information required for a specific job

  • Inspection of improvements during construction

  • Making investigations of and preparing reports on assigned engineering, economic, and other problems

  • Performing mathematical computations and work on engineering computer programs

  • Gathering and compiling data; developing, entering, and evaluating programs and results

The starting salary for this position is $36.70 to $44.22 per hour commensurate with knowledge, skills, education and experience as it relates to the position.

Minimum Training and Experience Required: 

Experience: Two years’ experience as an Engineering Technician II or six years of equivalent electric utility experience in distribution design tasks and customer contact relating to electric distribution systems.

Education: Associate’s degree in an engineering discipline. Satisfactory completion of NWPPA staking technician program, or other approved technician training course may substitute.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying.
