Leads and supervises youth for a summertime, warm-weather outdoor camp based in one of the city's parks. Instructs and facilitates youth in various recreational activities. Work is performed independently with minimal supervision.
Must be 17 years of age or older.
This position is designated as At-Will.
Essential Functions
Supervises youths for an outdoor camp located in one of the city's parks; organizes and leads daily games and activities for youth in a safe manner; assists in the creation of weekly playcamp curriculums; supervises youths during program hours.
Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Requirements
Previous experience working or performing volunteer work with children.
Ability to exercise independent judgment; interact with coworkers and the public in a friendly and professional manner; assist youth in pools on swim days; use sound judgment; interact with coworkers and the public in a friendly and professional manner; assist youth in swimming pools on swim days; participate in mild to moderate recreational activities/sports; recognize and redirect misbehavior; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, and Training Two years experience volunteering or working with youth as a coach, instructor, teacher's aide, or nanny.
Licensing and Other Requirements Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.
Special Requirements All applicants must be able to successfully pass City of Boise background check processes which include reference checks and criminal history checks.

Physical Efforts While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 35 lbs and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. Also the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. The noise level is occasionally loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, touch and feel. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, run, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions, in hot, sunny, wet, and humid conditions; occasionally exposed to insects and pets. Work includes protected exposure to bodily fluids.
