Job Summary: The HR Business Partner reports to the Executive Director of Compensation and is responsible for managing relationships with HR Leaders and Business Partners across BILH. They are the first point of contact for assigned entities for all compensation projects and requests and manages expectations on deliverables. Works with Manager Compensation Operations for assignment of work to compensation team members. Participates in the design, development, execution and communication of compensation programs, tools and processes. Advises on organizational policies, practices and procedures and ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Partners with Talent Acquisition to develop strategic pay practices and protocols that address recruitment & retention challenges.

Essential Responsibilities:


  1. Provides advice, guidance and training to client area managers, employees, and HR colleagues in the interpretation and administration of the organization's compensation programs, policies and with a focus on service and designing programs that meet the business needs. Develops and maintains effective, professional consultative relationships with clients.

  2. Engages in comprehensive needs assessments, provides recommendations on how the issue may be addressed, and coordinates and facilitates the execution of the initiative. Manages assigned projects, including writing of proposals/recommendations, implementation and maintenance of cost effective and legally compliant programs and practices.

  3. Monitors employee progress and counsels employees, as appropriate. Manages data collection and program budget and reports regularly on program outcomes and progress.

  4. As a HR Business Partner interfaces between business operations of client groups and the HR function; advises line managers on strategic HR issues and ensures that business needs are reflected in the development and implementation of HR processes, tools and directives.

  5. Works closely with HR Leaders and department management involved in restructuring and reorganization of jobs. Identities career ladder opportunities.

  6. Offers technical guidance and expertise and assures appropriateness of new/revised job classifications, job hierarchy and related issues. Suggests combinations of job functions and qualifications to develop career ladders and logical progression of jobs within the various job families.

  7. Acts as a project leader on more complex projects and provides guidance and support to team members. Work may involve complex analysis of large data sets to provide comprehensive recommendations and high level presentations.

  8. Utilizing data gathered by compensation team members to make recommendations for base salary structures, market adjustments and variable pay programs. Prepares written exhibits, summaries and recommendations and identifies trends as part of powerpoint presentations to HR Leaders.

  9. Continually assesses program performance and enhances program to improve program delivery. (Looks for opportunities in process improvement, makes recommendations and supports review, redesign and implementation of changes. Supports all other compensation related projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

  2. 8-10 years related work experience required.

  3. Minimum of 5 years related experience as an HR Generalist with knowledge of Compensation analysis. Thorough knowledge of HR policies and practices, as well as federal and state wage and hour law.

  4. Excellent project management, analytical and financial modeling skills. Demonstrated ability to design, communicate and implement compensation programs. Attention to detail a must and proven ability to use discretion in dealing with confidential information.

  5. Experience working with an HRMS application.

  6. Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

  1. Experience with Workday a plus.

  7. Team Work: Ability to lead and direct multiple collaborative teams for large projects or groups both internal and external to the Medical Center and across functional areas. Results have significant implications for the management and operations of the organization.


  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
