The Diabetes and Complications Team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist to join our discovery research team. We are directly involved in a variety of drug discovery projects for cardiovascular/renal diseases. This position will primarily involve in vivo compound testing in various rodent models of diabetes, obesity, cardio-metabolic, or cardio-renal disease. Are you a passionate about the science? You will craft and perform experiments independently as well as within team-based environments, and interact with internal and external collaborators. Responsibilities:


  • Active involvement in heart failure drug hunting teams - serve as a scientific and technical collaborator to project team to develop, optimize and validate in vivo experiments, and aid in understanding in vivo experimental results.

  • Perform acute and chronic in vivo studies including animal handling, blood and biopsy collection, measurement of body weight and blood pressure as well as test article formulation and administration by oral gavage and subcutaneous, intravenous, and intramuscular injection.

  • Perform small animal surgical procedures including, but not limited to, rodent catheterization and mini pump implantation.

  • Analysis, interpretation and presentation of data in these experiments in spreadsheet and graphical form with descriptive statistical analysis.

Basic Qualifications:

Associate degree with 2 years of applicable experience or Bachelor's degree preferably in biology/animal science/veterinary technology or a closely related field with applicable laboratory research experience.

Additional Skills/Preferences:


  • Significant experience in the handling of small laboratory animals.

  • Experience with rodent disease models, with some knowledge of small animal surgery techniques.

  • Proven ability to perform in a flexible, collaborative environment.

  • Ability to arrange, modify, and coordinate methods for in vivo studies and modify procedures when warranted.

  • Ability to work with radioisotopes, chemical, and biological hazards.

  • Oral/written communication/listening skills in English are needed.

  • Strong relationship-building and interaction skills with peers and management.

Additional Information:


  • Flexible scheduling is a requirement. The position is full-time (40 hrs/wk), but not all regularly scheduled work hours will occur Mon-Fri from 8 AM-4:45 PM. There is a requirement to work occasionally early and/or after-hours or on weekends.
