Detailed Job Description
The Cyber Range Environment Engineer will be the core developer for the Cyber Security Range and will be responsible for the construction of the environments in which training, educational, and research based scenarios and projects will occur. A successful candidate will be able to interact with clients as they work through scenarios and then present potential improvements for the environment to the team with the goal of creating more realistic and compelling experiences.
This position will also be expected to lead a team of student employees who will assist with builds, work with external strategic partners, and RIT organizational partners. This position reports to the Cyber Range Technical Director in RIT's Global Cybersecurity Institute (GCI).
Major Responsibilities:
Architect, orchestrate, and maintain virtual infrastructures for cyber range scenarios, competitions, and (eventually) computer security curriculum.
Define and implement efficient end-to-end provisioning of automation solutions.
User experience testing and analysis as well as engagement with participants during cyber range events
Software development, application and tool creation, and AV integration in association with the CSR
Work as part of a team in the development and execution of exercises associated with the cyber range
Designing, building, testing and documenting various cyber centric and management applications and supporting back-end systems.
Demo new ideas and help solidify technical direction.
Ensures the adherence to standards, policies and procedures
Assisting cyber range participants to connect to scenarios, courses, and exercises.
Keeping current of cutting edge security issues and techniques
Assist faculty with and participate in research projects exploring novel ideas associated with cyber security.
Work as part of a team to formulate the technical vision and design for the cyber range.
Work with faculty, staff, and organizations across RIT in addition to vendors and outside companies to meet the overall goals of the cyber range, range-hosted competitions, and perform hands-on outreach/security assurance testing through the Eaton Cybersecurity SAFE Lab

Required Minimum Qualifications Experience:
Three-five years of experience automating IT administration, IT processes, or business processes
Three-five years of experience managing or maintaining enterprise IT infrastructure (Servers, Storage, Network, and/or Security)
Five years of building software on Unix/Windows
At least two years using VMWare products: ESXi, vCloud, vCenter, Horizon, etc.
One or more years of experience with process orchestration
Skills:
Demonstrated expertise in computer and network security, specifically in penetration testing and security evaluation.
Experience with security incident event management and threat prevention tools, such as QRadar
Experience with Kali Linux and various hacking/penetration testing tools
Demonstrated ability to deploy and configure infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform and Ansible
Cloud architecture experience
Expert knowledge of computer networking fundamentals; IPv4/IPv6
Experience with JavaScript, PHP, Perl, and PowerShell
Experience with or willingness to learn Golang and LaForge
Experience with or willingness/ability to learn CMMC assessment/audit functions
Excellent interpersonal skills
Dedication to learning and advancing your skills
Ability to troubleshoot software and communications malfunctions.
Demonstrated skills in project planning and implementation
Ability to work within a team setting
