Lifeguard - 20% FTE - The American Center (4421) at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority in Madison, Wisconsin

Job Description:

Ensure the safety of everyone in the Aquatic Center at UW Health’s newest hospital.

We are currently seeking a Lifeguard to:

• Supervise/lifeguard pool deck operations including appointments, classes, and programs


• Monitor state of the art facilities and equipment


• Ensure chemicals in pool are balanced


• Assist Pool Therapists with appointment management


• Greet patients/patrons at the Aquatic Facility


• Track class attendance and pool usage

Education:

Preferred - High School Diploma or equivalent

Work Experience:

Preferred - Previous lifeguard experience

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum - Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification; CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification; First Aid Certification

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

• Ability to pass the skills and written exams


• Ability to enforce rules and assist participants in a friendly, respectful manner


• Applicants with expired certifications or non-Red Cross certifications interested in applying may be eligible to attend a class for a Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification and/or CPR certification through UW Health Sports Medicine Center at the discretion of the manager.

Physical Requirements:

Heavy: Ability to lift up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedule:  20% FTE, 8 hours per week.  Scheduled shifts vary Monday through Friday with weekend rotation.  Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.
