Summary





The Project Engineer provides technical designs, project management, assistance, and support for assigned department duties.   This is a full-time exempt position. The Project Engineer reports to the Regional Director of Engineering and the position is located in Trenton, NJ.


 


Responsibilities 





1. Manage and oversight of multiple engineering projects.  


2. Communicate with Engineering Manager and Senior Management on projects.  


3. Schedule and complete engineering projects in support of any of the following: plant operations, plant maintenance, underground distribution system, and metering operations and customer needs or requests.


4. Provide system designs for maximum system reliability, safety, and construction. 


5. Review new customer proposals for new  thermal services, including chilled and hot water.  


6. Conduct data collection and project reporting.


7. Work directly with the Engineering and site teams in the planning and execution of Capital and Maintenance projects.   


8. Assist in design reviews of capital project drawings or documents for safety, suitability, constructability, efficiency, use of technology, integration with existing facilities, etc. Update and review drawings as necessary for projects.


9. Make recommendations to streamline procedures or methods to achieve improvement in Team efficiencies. Perform all assignments in compliance with published company operating procedures.


10. Maintain safe working conditions: identify, correct, and report unsafe conditions in work areas in accordance with OSHA standards. Participate in required Safety and Corporate compliance training as necessary.





Qualifications and Experience





1. B.S Degree in Engineering. Preferably in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.


2. Minimum of 3 years as a working engineer preferably in a utility or heavy industry, with a sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria.


3. 2+ Years of Construction Management and/or Project Management experience. 


4. Knowledge of chilled water systems a plus but not required.


5. Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database management programs, project scheduling programs and CAD software (Microstation, AutoCAD, etc.) 


6. Underground utility construction experience a plus but not required.


7. Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, construction drawings, Civil drawings, work scopes and contract documents.


8. Manage safe work environments with multiple trades and disciplines.


9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to complete accurate & timely daily reports for each project.


10. Ability to build relationships; ability to coordinate with contractors, suppliers, other utilities, customers, and our company.


11. Ability to work on multiple projects at one time across distances; will be required to travel to customer locations and regional offices as required.


12. Must be able to work outside of normal business hours as needed.


13. Knowledge of Trenton city, NJ State, and municipal construction codes.




Physical Requirements 





1. Must submit to a company provided physical and drug screening as part of pre-employment process.


2. Required to wear PPE such as hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection.


3. Must be able to tolerate hot and cold environments and inclement weather. 


4. Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle.


5. Able to climb and tolerate heights of approximately 20 feet, enclosed areas and higher than normal temperatures. 


6. Must be able to lift up to and including 50 lbs.


7. Able to work in confined spaces.
