What you will do

The Business Development Manager – Healthy Buildings will be the primary sales leader for the OpenBlue Healthy Buildings business and will be a core member of the Johnson Controls Global Services team.  Included in the Healthy Buildings solution portfolio are our products and services aligned with our Healthy People, Healthy Places, and Healthy Planet customer outcomes, including Clean Air.

Working alongside Global Services, Global Products, and Region sales, marketing, and product management, the Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for enabling Johnson Controls’ global channel partners to develop, pursue, and secure incremental Healthy Buildings opportunities.  The BDM will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the portfolio and will be co-responsible for global plan attainment for the business.

You'll work in conjunction with sales and product leaders across Global Products and Region functional groups. Represents the Healthy Buildings business in customer-facing sales discussions.  Acts independently to resolve challenges and to address new business opportunities related to the portfolio.  Work is highly strategic in nature.

How you will do it


  1. Support Johnson Controls’ global channel partners in their pursuit of Healthy Buildings opportunities, including assisting with customer presentations and other customer-facing business development activities as required

  2. Partner with channel sales leadership to continuously measure and evaluate channel sales readiness levels

  3. Implement Johnson Controls’ account management framework to ensure greatest return on support investment, including building out account plans for and leading regular business reviews with key channel partners

  4. Build and maintain relationships with global engineering and development teams to gather and act upon voice-of-the-customer and voice-of-sales feedback

  5. Link with Johnson Controls learning & development, marketing, and communications teams to assist with development of Healthy Buildings market-conditioning initiatives including:

    1. Channel marketing and communications initiatives

    2. Sales aids and collateral including playbooks, battle cards, presentation materials, and specifications

    3. Sales promotions and campaigns

    4. Product learning maps and curricula

    5. Sales learning resources



  6. Represent Johnson Controls as an active member of applicable industry organizations, and leverage that position to gain influence on future business opportunities

  7. Lead Johnson Controls’ identification of and participation in applicable industry trade shows and other industry meetings

  8. Prepare for and deliver regular report-outs on financial performance and growth strategies

  9. Work in conjunction with global regional Healthy Buildings leads to build accretive channel strategies in all markets

What you will need


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Marketing; Master's degree preferred

  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive sales and/or sales management experience with a major global firm in the buildings industry is a must

  • Ability to lead and influence others toward common objectives as an individual contributor

  • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills

  • Best-in-class presentation skills, with extensive experience presenting to C-suite leaders and other executive decision makers

  • Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a high-growth environment with minimal supervision

  • Ability to distill complex sales objectives into comprehensive action plans

  • Ability to lead and influence across diverse geographical areas and cultural groups
