Position Overview

This is a skilled position as an experienced Estimator/Project Manager involving the preparation of quantity estimates using material, labor and overhead costs and management of projects that are awarded to the company.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze bid documents, proposals and specifications

Prepare bids and estimates in a timely manner based on the specifications

Consults with material suppliers, sub-contractors and logistic companies

Visit projects to assess haul routes and plant sites

Develop a working knowledge of the Quality Control process

Develop technical knowledge of asphalt mix design

Participate in the bid letting process

Manage projects awarded through scheduling materials and logistics

Maintain adequate timelines of materials to meet project needs

Coordinate logistic movements with Superintendents and suppliers

Maintain good personal relationships with suppliers

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

High School diploma or GED required, College or Technical Ed preferred

Demonstrates strong mathematic abilities

Strong independent organizational skills

Previous construction knowledge or experience

Proficient with Micro Soft based computer programs

Professional social and interaction skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Be able to bid and manage multiple jobs concurrently.
  • Must have experience with estimating earthwork, demolition, and utility projects, including quantity take-off, pricing, crew production and scheduling.
  • Visit project sites weekly to monitor progress, update schedules and review cost with Project Superintendent.
  • Manage profit /loss of projects through weekly cost reviews.
  • Management of awarded projects including but not limited to: see that all safety practices are followed throughout construction, create and update project schedules, create month billings, review of job cost costs, work with field personnel to build project, manage / price change orders and oversight of subcontractor and vendors.
  • Work owners/customers to help ensure complete customer satisfaction.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Bid 2 Win, Trimble Business Center, Plan Swift and ViewPoint.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience

High School diploma or GED required, College or Technical Ed preferred
  • Five+ years construction estimating experience is preferred; or an equivalent of education and experience will be accepted
