R and D Tech

Senior R and D Lab Technician

Summary:  Conceive, plan and conduct laboratory experiments under a supervision of a scientist, review results and prepare reports with recommendations for next steps.

Essential Responsibilities: 


  • This technician will primarily work in glass melting, milling, pasting, printing and firing coatings and evaluation of results under the directions of senior scientists/engineers

  • Conceive, plan and conduct laboratory experiments under a supervision of a scientist/engineer

  • Review results and prepare comprehensive reports with recommendations for next steps

  • Develop test procedures and continually refine those procedures for better accuracy

  • Statistically analyze the results, plot them and present

  • Maintain very detailed data both in computer files and lab notebooks; with all experimental conditions, observations, lots of raw materials used

  • Repair and maintain equipments as assigned

  • Support scale-up activities in a plant environment as required

  • Demonstrate initiative routinely and work with minimum supervision

  • Perform long and short range planning of experiments in assigned projects

  • Multitask and adjusting to changing priorities

  • Work collaboratively with scientists and technicians in the group

  • Follows all laboratory and safety procedures


  • Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum of three years of industrial/academic R&D technician experience or equivalent, with proven record of sustained contribution as technician in one or more fields of inorganic materials, coatings, glass materials

  • Proven track record of contributing to successful industrial or academic projects.

  • A technical Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Science or Engineering will be a plus

  • Experience in projects related to glass melting, milling, pasting and screen printing will be a plus

  • Hands on technician in the laboratory environment (through related projects) in operating advanced synthesis and characterization equipment.

  • Scale up and plant experience will be a plus

  • Tape casting and hands on screen printing experience will be a big plus

  • Demonstrated knowledge in equipment repairs and rebuilding will be a plus

  • Work experience in products scale up will be a plus

  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and report writing/editing skills

  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment

  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Self-motivated and curious to learn new things.
