Overview


The Level II Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing technical support under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Level II technician works primarily in the retail outpatient pharmacy, but may also support any other satellite location. Technician's duties include preparing oral take home medications, manufacturing and compounding pharmaceutical products, inventory management, utilizing the various equipment and technology available in the pharmacy, performing drop-off and pick-up window duties, and performing various quality control tasks as assigned. In addition, the level II technician will participate in training and orientation of new technicians and pharmacy students.

Requirements


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares medication


  1. Prepares all medications accurately

  2. Works efficiently, able to maintain a steady workflow

  3. Assembles medications and materials in a neat and organized manner

  4. Demonstrates good aseptic technique

  5. Participates in training and orientation of pharmacy technicians

Inventory management


  1. Maintains adequate levels of stock medications and materials for assigned work area

  2. Follow the outpatient pharmacy ordering and receiving procedures

  3. Participates in inventory management

Technology


  1. Has working knowledge of and is able to use all technology required to perform functions of daily duties

  2. Participate in training and orientation of new pharmacy technicians to technology

  3. Identify when technology is not working properly and triage as appropriate

Performs technician duties at the drop-off and pick-up windows


  1. Accurately perform the necessary duties at the drop-off and pickup window

  2. Understands who customer (both external and internal) is and takes responsibility for customer satisfaction and loyalty

  3. Sets an example of excellence in customer service to others




Qualifications


MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High school graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited entry-level degree program for pharmacy or related field

  • Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy Registration as Pharmacy Intern or Pharmacy Technician.

  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification required, with the exception of pharmacy students

  • Two to five years of pharmacy technician experience with at least one year of outpatient/retail experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Accuracy and precision in compounding

  • Prioritization and organization of work

  • Basic computer skills

  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule

  • Pharmaceutical calculations

  • Proper aseptic technique and safe handling of antineoplastics, biologics and chemicals
