Job Description:

General Summary:

Perform in a custom machine & automation engineering & building environment, by participating in the designand development of products, machinery and tooling plus create and update machine design drawings, submittals and bill of materials. Also communicate with respective design teams to clarify requirements and coordinate timing on design projects. Will be tasked to manage their project(s) through the design stages, through specifying and ordering materials (both raw materials & purchased components), through creating mechanical drawing & assembly print packets, through the machining stage, through the assembly stage, and then the installation. Key measurements of success will be staying on budget, on time, and that their machine(s)perform as they were intended to and as they promised it to our internal customer base.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Create and change drawings to new and existing products and special design requests using computer-aided design technology under direction of design team.


• Manage multiple projects and may manage small projects in accordance with pre-determined completion dates with assistance of design team. Design basic machines.


• Assist in preparing bill-of-materials on new and changed designs under direction of design team.


• Maintains drawing files (CAD, PDF and other documentation).


• Oversee the transition from design into production, including any necessary testing and training required for implementing new or changed designs. Participate in safety sign-offs.


• Evaluate material selection, cost analysis, and vendors as required. Review the selection and specification of purchased component parts for basic systems.


• Moderate involvement with prototyping machine concepts.


• May be involved in testing and troubleshooting of machine start-up.


• May provide support to business unit staff through the creation of submittal drawings or technical assistance on simple inquiries under the direction of the design team / supervisor.


• May provide technical direction to shop floor/maintenance personnel to correct design problems as they arise. Communicate design problems to appropriate engineering personnel for corrective action.


• Assist with documentation prior to shipment, including preventative maintenance, safety, operational procedures, maintenance manual, and prints and purchased items lists.


• May assist in the resolution of machine/process issues in production.


• May participate in process improvement projects to continually improve the cost efficiency of design and manufacturing processes in the form of drawing changes as directed by design team.

Job Qualifications:

Work requires extensive technical or specialized training such as that which would be acquired in the first two or three years of college or technical school.

Between 1-3 years of work experience is required.

Knowledge of CAD systems (AutoCAD and Inventor Preferred).

No knowledge required of the products or systems but it is preferred.

Basic familiarity of simple pneumatic and hydraulic components.

Moderate to high analytical ability required.
