Completion of an accredited program of Respiratory Care or minimum an Associated Degree in Respiratory Care, Required.
Bachelor's Degree, Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Current State of Connecticut license as Respiratory Care Practitioner.
Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (RRT) for all new hires after August 1, 2018.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant is required
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire or before staff has completed dept. orientation if that is longer than 6 months.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 6 months of hire or before staff has completed dept. orientation

Job Description
Respiratory Therapists are clinical specialist who provide quality care to patients and their families according to physician orders and approved protocols. Services provided include assessment, treatment and management, rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities which affect the cardiopulmonary system. This involves the application and analysis of respiratory care as it applies to clinical data, equipment, and therapeutic procedures.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry Shift Coordination Pager as required
Independent in job duties with minimal supervision required in all patient care areas, including but not limited to: NICU, PICU, ED, Transports, Med Surgical floors, PACU and outpatient
Job requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning and adaptability to varied environments and information, and quick decision-making. A high degree of selective attention discernment, perception, and/or concentration is necessary.
Job requires legibility, speaking accuracy and logical sentence and paragraph organization. A working knowledge and familiarity with professional (medical) terms and definitions is required.
Job requires a high level of communication skill including expression of abstract/complex ideas, use of negotiation and active listening and an ability to dialogue with multiple parties.
Job requires an ability to comprehend abstractions and to make inferences.
Job requires familiarity with algebraic expressions, fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion.
Job requires the use of critical thinking skills for complex problem solving and requires the ability to review related information to develop and evaluate options and solutions for clinical decision making

Work Environment:
Job requires working continuously around others, while working alone and with others on a frequent basis. Frequently required are emergency response and transport, inter and intra hospital. Working in crowded spaces and frequent exposure to body fluids/ blood borne pathogens. Flexibility in scheduling and hours in addition to on call coverage are required.
