We are a core part of the Broad Institute, a deeply collaborative scientific institution that is transforming medicine and human health by building software solutions to process and analyze scientific data on an unprecedented scale. No medical, genomics, or scientific background is required, just an enthusiasm to improve the world of science and medicine, an ability to manage teams to produce exceptional software, and the ability to collaborate with scientists.

What you'll do:

  • Drive technical product development and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment.

  • Be responsible for the overall execution of product development and the success of your teams.

  • Collaborate with Product Management to plan and deliver new features and projects.

  • Provide strategic oversight for the teams and foster a sense of empowerment and collective ownership within the teams.

  • Form good working relationships across other teams and departments to help break down barriers to collaboration.

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, career development, and support to the teams on both technical and non-technical issues.

  • Uphold a culture that ensures psychological safety, learning, inclusion, and transparency

  • Ensure operational excellence, including production incident response and mitigation.

The tech stack for the teams includes Azure, GCP, Github, BigQuery, Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm, Java, Spring Boot, React, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Bash. The teams use JIRA to support their agile development processes.

What we're looking for:

  • 3+ years managing engineering teams (or a track record of leading highly effective teams) and an individual engineering background

  • A passion for people-first servant leadership with experience in mentoring and supporting engineers in their career growth

  • Adaptability to a fast-paced operational environment with emergent priorities

  • Experience with full stack cloud computing

  • Experience bringing new products to market or updating and modernizing legacy products, particularly in a regulated environment

  • Commitment to high engineering standards and an enthusiasm for mentorship

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • It's a plus if you have experience with any of the following: Big data, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, FISMA or FedRAMP, background in DevOps

What we offer:

  • A fun, collaborative and mission-driven environment

  • A welcoming and inclusive work culture

  • Comprehensive benefits package: vacation, paid sick time, health/dental care, matching 401K, commuter benefits, child care etc.

  • The opportunity to have a real impact on the advancement of science and medicine

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
