Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is seeking an organized, driven, and service-oriented Talent Specialist to join our team in Waukesha, WI.This role works closely with Recruitment, Professional Development, Human Resources, Practice Group Managers and Hiring Managers to assure an exceptional experience, consistent processes, onboarding optimization, and cultural integration for all new hires and employees of the Firm.

This role is primarily focused on orientation, onboarding, integration, and professional development; however, based upon variable hiring activity and evolving business needs, the incumbent can expect to spend up-to 40% of his or her time otherwise supporting the Recruitment, Professional Development, and/or HR functions in a generalist, administrative capacity.


Responsibilities & Duties:


  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all attorney, professional staff, student, and Michael Best Strategies candidates with an "accepted offer" of employment; conducting and coordinating all pre-placement activities prior to their start date:

    1. Set up and monitor pre-placement background checks, partnering with management and/or general counsel as needed

    2. Communicate updates as appropriate to internal and external parties

    3. Enter the candidate into the HRIS platform and initiate and monitor completion of all new hire forms, paperwork, and e-verify processes (when applicable)

    4. Enter and monitor candidate information in the internal onboarding system "HEAT" that generates departmental alerts for action

    5. Work with the various internal teams, the practice group manager and/or hiring manager to schedule the new hires' orientation day and onboarding weeks

    6. Meet or arrange for another designated person to meet, the new hire on their first day to finalize I-9 and new hire paperwork, provide a location tour and workspace introduction

    7. Maintain a consistent "week one" experience for all new hires, including the creation and maintenance of an Orientation Binder for all hires to the Firm

    8. Create and oversee a "passport program" that assures the new hire meets key contacts in each department and practice group in their initial 31-90 days.



  • Serve as the primary point of contact and process coordinator to facilitate and document 30-60-90 day new hire check-ins, as well as 6-month and 12-month stay interviews.

  • Assures execution of the quarterly "Welcome New Hires" events at each location.

  • Coordinate and oversee orientation and onboarding learning content within Michael Best's Learning Management System "Michael Best Academy," focusing on content most useful in the first 90 days of employment with the Firm.

  • Under professional development (PD) leadership direction, support the development and administration of Michael Best Academy platform; specifically focused on creating and maintaining courses, resources, and documentation.

  • Under PD leadership and team direction, assist in a Platform Administrator and Content Creator capacity for Michael Best Academy. May assist various subject matter experts through the firm in developing and/or distributing learning content.

  • Under recruitment leadership direction and on an as-needed basis, support the talent acquisition function as a generalist capacity, providing project-based assistance and administrative support. Recruiting projects include, but are not limited to: general administrative work, applicant tracking system (ATS) work, Affirmative Action Planning tasks or reporting, data entry, scheduling interviews, writing candidate summaries, and the coordination or support of recruitment events and annual talent programs like the Summer Associate Program, EDGE Program, and other internships.

  • Under HR leadership direction, serve as the 'process coordinator' to facilitate consistent offboarding processes, protocols, and HEAT communications for departing employees. Assures all exit interviews are completed and documented.

  • Under HR leadership direction and on an as-needed basis, support the human resources function in a generalist capacity, providing project-based assistance and administrative support. HR projects include, but are not limited to: general administrative work, HRIS tasks, data entry, reporting, and coordination/support of annual events like benefits open enrollment, performance reviews, leave administration documentation, and compensation surveys or adjustments.

  • Additional duties as assigned by departmental leadership.







Job Requirements:



  • An Associates' Degree is minimally required; Bachelors' preferred, in business administration, business management, human resources or similar.

  • 2+ years' successful experience in a HR, Recruitment or Talent Development role; at least one years in onboarding or training tasks/roles is strongly preferred

  • Must have a client-centric, responsive and service-focused mindset

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Above-average interpersonal conflict management skills

  • A demonstrated ability to successfully multitask and prioritize workload

  • Successful experience with highly detailed and process-oriented work

  • A track record of delivering high quality, timely and error-free results

  • Flexible and adaptable workstyle with an ability to work productively in a team, across departments, and independently

  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to independently solve problems with an objective, analytical assessment

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with HRIS (UltiPro Platform) and ATS (LawCruit Platform) preferred

  • Experience in the legal industry or professional service industry preferred
