Position Summary


The Lathe Machine Operator at PTG Reed works in a team environment to set-up and operation the Lathe equipment in a skillful and efficient manner, manufacturing high-precision and quality products.




Primary Duties & Responsibilities


*Collect job assignments and appropriate associated materials (templates, blueprints, process sheets, etc.)
*Interpret blueprints or sketches and process sheets to determine machine parameters.
*Set machine controls to maintain optimal quality and throughput.
*Load the machine, using a hoist or hand-controlled overhead crane when required.
*Effectively monitor production equipment.
*Perform in process inspection to ensure that work is done to required specifications.
*Make precise measurements using precision measuring instruments such as: Micrometers, level protractors, squares, veneers, gauge blocks, dial bore gauges, depth gauges, profilometers and vidi-gauges.
*Maintain a safe and clean work area in keeping with 6S initiatives.
*Assist the shop technicians/engineering as necessary.
*Notify Supervisor or Leader of any issues relating to safety, machine function, or non-conformance.
*Follow established safety rules and regulations
*Other duties as directed by supervision.




Experience & Education


*High School Diploma/GED.
*Previous experience with Lathe Operation
*Must be able to:
*Read and interpret blueprints and process sheets.
*Use wide variety of precision measuring instruments.
*Must have knowledge of shop mathematics.




Required Skills


*Ingenuity and initiative are a must.
*Ability to recognize deviations from normal machine operation.
*Hand/eye coordination is required to operate several controls simultaneously.
*High visual acuity necessary to read precision gaging and monitor detailed work.
*Dexterity required for quick and precise movement.
*Must be able to remain diligent and attentive in setting up or operating machine where carelessness could cause temporarily disabling injury to others.
*Moderate physical effort required especially in loading machinery.
