We are seeking an experienced, motivated digital dot-connector to join our marketing team. This individual will be responsible for defining and driving the digital experiences (web, email, social, content, and community) and media investments behind our family of fast-growing hydroponic brands.


This position's ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and hands-on experience connecting business objectives, digital best practices, and media in innovative ways to build brands, engage audiences and convert consumers. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while leading a team of specialists.


In this role, you will:


  • Operate as a player-coach, leading by example as you both work with and guide your team to design and implement a range of successful digital strategies and media plans;


  • Translate complex business requirements into relevant, long-term digital communication strategies that empower digital marketing, ecommerce, and consumer engagement for all Hawthorne brands


  • Partner with the insights and category teams to understand relevant consumer journeys, market and consumer data, as well as trends that move our brands and business ahead;


  • As a digital leader, demonstrate an innate understanding of visual design, UX, research, frontend, and backend development


  • As a social and content leader, bring focus to developing content and building communities around both our brands and hydroponic growing;


  • As a media leader, continuously assess and measure media impact and ROI, including campaigns executed by outside agencies and media partners;


  • Create new, long term value for Hawthorne with a platform-oriented approach to your team's work, unlocking the opportunity for re-use and scale of strategies across our ever-expanding brand, digital and media ecosystem;


  • Manage and drive relationships with relevant vendors/technologies, ensuring that our needs are addressed and aligned;


  • Interview, hire, develop, and coach team members to lead an organization capable of accomplishing changing business needs;


  • Ensure your team has the support and tools needed to deliver positive outcomes to the business;


  • Maintain professional, strategic, and channel knowledge relevant for our industry;


  • Work with both your team and your peers to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to eliminate waste;


  • Work with both your team and your peers to identify, select and manage third-party resources that assist in new projects or staff augmentation as needed;


  • Perform as a thought-leader within the organization, actively educating associates and executives about the opportunities and challenges for digital marketing, emerging social platforms, content creation, and media investments.




The perfect person will have:


  • Bachelor's Degree or an advanced degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related fields


  • 10+ years of strategic/brand planning, digital marketing, or media experience;


  • Experience within the Hydroponics Industry is preferred although not required.


  • Proven work experience as a strategic leader on a category-leading consumer brand or through a body of work from a nationally-recognized digital agency;


  • Service design experience;


  • Demonstrated, deep understanding of consumer data and analytics.


  • Confidence and integrity to earn internal team and agency trust quickly;


  • Flexibility in working with a geographically distributed, cross-functional team;


  • Exceptional communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives


  • Exhibited capacity to deliver on a variety of high-profile assignments under tight due dates.
