Help keep our equipment running and our water flowing as a Maintenance Mechanic with Pennsylvania American Water! Our McKeesport location is hiring a mechanic to join our team! This role is critical in helping our operations run smoothly. As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will will be responsible for the daily upkeep of our equipment including, but not limited to filter presses, circulating pumps, and blowers. You will be tasked with providing plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical services to our assets.  




Primary Role



The maintenance mechanic performs preventive maintenance throughout the PA American Water Inc. facilities, according to established schedules and procedures. You will maintain and repair all PA American Water Inc. equipment, facilities and

properties.





Key Accountabilities




  • Inspects, repairs, replaces, adjusts, installs, and maintains all electrical and electronic equipment in the plant or assigned area.

  • Works on industrial high voltage lines (up to 480 volts) and equipment, taps in and connections, inspects and repairs.

  • Maintains and troubleshoots the plant’s normal and emergency distribution and generating equipment.

  • Inspects, repairs, replaces, adjusts, installs, fabricates, and maintains all mechanical equipment in the plant, interceptor structures, and pumping stations, and make all necessary major repairs to such equipment.

  • Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, assembles, and lubricates designated mechanical equipment.

  • Performs cutting, burning, soldering, lay-out, installation, maintenance and repair of all types of pipeline, fittings, and fixtures.

  • Lays out, assembles, erects, and performs all types of welding, brazing, and cutting on any type of metal, using gas and electric welding equipment.

  • Works as a mechanic on plant equipment and outside structures as required.

  • Performs carpentry, painting, masonry, and related work as required in the maintenance construction and remodeling

  • of plant and office buildings, equipment, and structures throughout the Pa. American Water Inc.

  • Analyzes all types of circuits, drawings, and wiring diagrams to modify, service, install, or repair all types of electronic devices and electrical systems, in order to determine material and replacement needs, and selects a logical approach to "trouble-shooting" and repair problems with minimum interruption of operation.

  • Receives, reads, and interprets blueprints, drawings, and sketches for required job. Inspects equipment for defects such as misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication Advises supervisor when shut-down of equipment is necessary for lubrication.

  • Performs other duties which may be assigned by a supervisor.




Knowledge/Skills




  • "General knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques commonly used in public works activities and general sewer treatment operations.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in machinery repair, installation of equipment, electrical repairs and troubleshooting, pipe fitting, plumbing, welding, and burning.

  • Some knowledge of computer operated equipment.

  • Thorough knowledge of safety rules and safe work practices in a plant operation."




Experience/Education




  • 5+ years related experience preferred 

  • High school diploma or GED




Other




  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated skills with all hand and power tools.

  • Certifications :

  • Valid PA driver license

  • Completion of pre-employment medical examination including drug and alcohol test.

  • Physical/Cognitive Requirements :

  • Able to lift, carry, and drag equipment and exert force up to forty (40) pounds; climb over and pull up oneself over obstacles; jump down from an elevated surface; climb through openings; jump over obstacles; crawl in confined areas; balance on uneven or narrow surfaces and use body force to gain entrance.

  • Climb steps and ladders on a regular basis to perform assigned tasks.

  • Work safely in an environment that includes significant noise, atmospheric conditions, and some environmental hazards that necessitate safety gear, eye protection, and occasionally a respirator.

  • Work overtime as needed.

  • Able to carry out written and oral directions and required tasks.

  • Valid driver license and PA DOT Certification required




Work Environment




  • Indoor and Outdoor environment.

  • Must be comfortable working in all types of weather conditions.

  •  Position is subject to 24 hour call-out and overtime.
