The Communications Specialist will be a mission-focused and hands-on storyteller that will ensure the quality, consistency, and appropriateness of content and design across all the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS (Healey Center) and Neurological Clinical Research Institute (NCRI) internal and external communications. The Communications Specialist will work closely with the Sr Director, leadership team, the Development, Marketing and Public Affairs Offices, and our collaborating programs to develop multifaceted communications plans that raise awareness about the Center and tells its story for a dynamic internal and external audience.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy Development and Implementation:
Participate in developing a Healey Center and NCRI's strategy for use across various communications avenues, social media, and the web to achieve communications goals with both internal and external audiences
Create communication plans that include social media, print and email materials, and web
Responsible for the day-today implementation of the Center's communications strategy across channels and platforms
Content Creation:
Develop content, including photographs, video, and interviews, that tells stories of the Healey Center and NCRI work in a compelling and dignified way
Use photography, videography, audio, and the written word to translate the Center's work into meaningful, engaging, and respectful brand collateral for communications and development purposes
Create and implement graphic design standards across the Healey Center and NCRI
Analyze and summarize Healey Center and NCRI news and prepare newsletters and presentations
Work with physicians, scientists, and staff within the Healey Center and NCRI and across MGH departments to keep abreast of and develop appropriate communications content
Media and Messaging:
Ensure all communication pieces are consistent and meet brand guidelines and compliance standards
Support all aspects of the Healey Center and NCRI's communications activities
Manage the workflow of creative jobs internally to ensure timely production and delivery
Apply knowledge and skills in multi-media journalism to further the Center's mission under the guidance of leadership team
Participate in other Healey Center and NCRI communications initiatives as requested
Online Presence:
Manage the Center's presence on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and other social networking platforms
Research new web features, social media, marketing tools and trends and, as appropriate, makes recommendations for their use
Research, write and update overall web content
Serve as primary liaison to MGH Information Systems Webmaster, Neurology and MGH Marketing Web Manager, Development Office, and Public Affairs Office on necessary technical resources required to manage communications and the website; responsible for complying with hospital policies
Work closely with the Neurology Department website manager and Development and Public Affairs Offices to establish, maintain and enhance the Center's communications efforts, materials, and the structure, tone, and content of the website.
Manage website customization, problem resolution and performance management in collaboration with the web manager
Develop and monitors systems and procedures to ensure timely response to customer comments and enquiries received through the website
Establish a regular mechanism for tracking use and effectiveness of the website
Manage contracts with web hosts, bulk email providers, editorial photo libraries, and other web development projects
Project Management:
Work with leadership, colleagues and external agencies/vendors to execute projects and adhere to timelines and budgets
Forecast production efforts, create and maintain timelines, and allocate internal resources to projects
Effectively communicate Center's communication strategy and results to internal and external audiences
Create strong measurement, tracking and analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of planned tactics
Analyze data to provide recommendations regarding stronger or new tactics that accomplish objectives
Create and execute editorial calendars for Healey Center and NCRI
Demonstrate comfort working both independently and in project teams
Special Events:
Responsible for managing specific projects and contributing to special events as assigned in areas such as community relations and fundraising events to help promote the Healey Center and NCRI
Qualifications

Knowledge of photography, videography, and web technologies
Web development or maintenance experience preferred

Attention to detail, with a strong sense of initiative and perseverance to carry through to completion of tasks
EDUCATION:
Minimum required: Bachelor's Degree
Field of Study/Additional Specialized Training:
Journalism, Communication or a related discipline.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum 3 years experience producing and editing digital content - preferably with a scientific or medical focus
Preferred: Experience working in the non-profit and/ or healthcare community preferred
