The Allergy Nurse Practitioner, Research Nurse will report to the Site PI and investigator team. The Research Nurse will develop and manage SUNBEAM's recruitment and research participant visits including the direct management of a dedicated study coordinator - with support of the SUNBEAM research team and clincal research program within the Division of Pediatric Allergy/Immunology.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Research Nurse Practitioner is expected to:
Have full understanding of the SUNBEAM research protocol and responsibility for consenting patients and addresses related clinical concerns of patients.
Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians and families
Work with PI and research team on other assigned projects as needed.
Work with residents, fellows, and internship students and provide supervision where appropriate
Further education relevant to role in order to implement evidence based, quality care
Participate in research activities that will positively affect patient care and patient care outcomes.
Ensure subject safety via routine review and monitoring of lab results, physical exam, symptoms, vital sign measurements and adverse event reports.
Perform exams and assessment as outlined by the protocol schedule of events.
Prepare all participant documentation as per protocol.
Maintain contact with other care providers within our system and other agencies.
Provide supervision and training to other staff and interns as needed.
Provide clinical consultation and education to research participants and families.
Initiate or participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities for evaluation of structure, process and outcome criteria as it relates to clinical practice.
Must have a valid Massachusetts RN or NP licensure in good standing. Further, candidates must meet requirements described below:
Nurse Practitioner Requirements
a. Graduation from a graduate degree program with a clinical practicum designed to prepare the graduate for practice as a Family NP that is approved by a national accrediting organization for academic programs acceptable to the Board; and
b. Relevant professional experience in clinical nursing specialty
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Nurse Practitioner, Research Nurse Candidate must be extremely well-organized, highly attentive to detail and skilled at effective and appropriate communication with diverse professionals and entities. He/she must be skilled at multi-tasking, independent problem-solving as well as effective time management under minimal supervision. The Research Nurse must also demonstrate the ability to effectively work within a team environment while providing guidance, assistance, troubleshooting and input on clinical research matters. The Research Nurse may provide crisis intervention during client suicide and/or homicidal risk assessments during a research visit as necessary.
Will have an office located at Newton Wellesley Hospital and the option for clinical encounters on main MGH campus (Boston) and/or other satellite locations.
The Research Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical advising and supervision for the research team and will report directly to the Site PI of the SUNBEAM project as well as the Chief of Pediatric Allergy / Immunology.
