The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Sexual Health Clinic sees male, female, transgender, and gender diverse patients ages 13 to 100 with concerns for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The NP completes focused histories, physical examinations, and assessments; formulates differential diagnoses; and prescribes medications, including pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP), as needed. In addition, the NP counsels patients about STI transmission, safer sex practices, and PrEP. The NP assists with the education of members of the MGH community - students, nurses, residents, fellows, and physicians - who rotate through the clinic, as well as nurses and medical providers from outside MGH who come to the clinic for CDC-sponsored courses in STI prevention and treatment. Participation in research protocols may also be possible. The NP works closely with the Sexual Health Clinic's multidisciplinary team of administrators, a laboratory technician, and a registered nurse to provide high quality care to all patients, including those who identify as LGBTQ+, who are uninsured or underinsured, and/or those with substance use disorders.
The Sexual Health Clinic is part of the Infectious Disease Associates outpatient practice, based on MGH's main campus. The NP works independently but under the supervision of an attending IDA physician. Opportunities may arise for the NP to work at other locations across metropolitan Boston to provide STI and HIV outreach, prevention, and treatment services in collaboration with community partners.
This 24-hour position includes a combination of day, afternoon, and evening hours Monday through Friday. Occasional weekend coverage may be necessary.
