Job Description:

Ellison 19- Thoracic Surgery & Vascular Surgery is a thirty-bed adult inpatient unit caring for a wide variety of medical and surgical patients. Our surgical patients are primarily complex thoracic and laryngeal patients requiring postoperative and airway management of esophageal, pulmonary, laryngeal and tracheal resections and reconstruction surgeries. Our medical population is diverse and complex. The nursing staff is expert at managing multifaceted airway and respiratory issues seen in the community and adult populations.


Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) assists the multi-disciplinary health care team in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment. PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs. Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner.



Qualifications

Current CNA certificate for Massachusetts and previous experience, preferably in an acute care setting.


HS diploma or equivalent.
Effective customer service orientation and the ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff and providers.
Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems using a combination of strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
Ability to lift and transport patients, using the appropriate physical technique, in a safe manner for the patient and self.
