The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of the Department Director.
Position Specific Summary: The CPL for the Behavioral Health Nurse Consult Service provides specialized psychiatric nursing evaluation, recommendations and follow-up to general hospital adult inpatients with the goal of maintaining or obtaining the patient's highest level of functioning. Services provided may include relaxation therapy, supportive therapy, stress management, problem solving, family support, and assistance with obtaining local follow-up when appropriate. The CPL is an advanced nurse leader and clinician. Areas of responsibility: Patient and Family Centered care: Models and ensures appropriate interventions to improve patient and family coping in the context of medical illness. Quality: Leads quality and process improvements that impact patient's mental and emotional health Staff Education: Leads and provides staff education as appropriate. Serves as a mental health resource for staff through leading care conferences and problem solving sessions to improve patient care.

Education or Equivalency Required:
Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP). Prefer Master's or Doctorate with Clinical NurseLeader (CNL) designation
Current, valid license to practice nursing in Iowa
Minimum of three (3) years clinical nursing experience
Demonstrate knowledge and experience with: Staff education and development, outcomes based practice and quality improvement, leading change processes including implementation of evidence-based practice
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Proficient in computer software applications
Certification: Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) - Certification by the Commission on Nurse Certification or certification relevant to clinical specialty
Demonstrated ability to understand and deliver care at the microsystem level while being part of a larger, complex and diverse environment
Role models professional and clinical practice
Experience with nursing research
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills and ability to problem solve
Member/active participation in professional organization(s)
