The Department of Otolaryngology is currently seeking a temporary Research Associate. The incumbent in this position perform experiments with rats, mice, and cell / tissue cultures. Conduct studies using the following techniques: Western blotting, RNA purification, real time PCR, cell fractionation, measurement of enzyme activities, Blue Native gel electrophoresis and SDS-PAGE, histological and immunohistochemical analysis. Prepare and / or perform survival and non-survival surgeries on rodents, including intra-vascular experiments using small catheters, induction of cerebral ischemia, induction of hemorrhagic stroke and post-operative care. Prepare general laboratory reagents. Compile, analyze, and document experimental results. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; develop laboratory procedures and techniques to effectively utilize particular equipment as required. Help principal investigator in ordering supplies, reagents, instruments, and animals. Help principal investigator in maintenance of instruments and arranging for repair when needed. Train residents, interns, or students in laboratory techniques and procedures. Occasional flexibility in working hours may be required for work in the lab. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Bachelor's degree is required. Some research experience is preferred.

Patient safety is a top priority.
