Operates machine and loads hopper of automatic feed mechanism or inserts fastener directly.
Verifies that fasteners are ready for grinding by comparing head markings and dimensions to description on shop drawing, and by visually inspecting fasteners for damage. Reports discrepancies to immediate supervisor.
Starts machine, loads automatic feeder mechanisms, inspects sample fasteners to verify correct machine set-up and operations.
Selects proper size and type of tooling and machine parts (such as jaws, work support blade, cam plate, control wheel, grinding wheel, feed block, feed tubes, etc.).
Remove, replace and/or adjusts machine parts for proper positioning and grinding of fasteners (such as grinding and control wheel, cam plate, grinding wheel styles, work support blade, jaws, shuttle, feed block, feed tube, ejector mechanism, etc.).
Prepares machine parts and tooling as required, (such as grinding work support blade).
Obtains specifications for work required on fasteners by reading lot traveler card and shop drawings.
Obtains specific work assignments by reading job numbers on production control chips placed on machine.
Inspects fasteners to verify correct machine set-up and operation by using micrometers, gauges and measuring devices. Readjusts machine set-up as required.
Dresses grinding wheel by checking position of diamond to ensure proper clearance, starts machine to configure the wheel.
Starts machine and hand feeds fasteners, inspects sample fasteners to verify correct machine set-up and operation.
Observes machine frequently to verify correct operation and to see if hopper needs reloading.
Dumps catch pans of acceptable ground fasteners into tote pans.
Locates pans of fasteners with corresponding job numbers in holding area and moves pans to work area.
Performs routine servicing of machines (such as changing cutting oil, balancing hub, lubricating machine and removing sludge from coolant tank).
Records pertinent production data on lot traveler card and/or data entry terminal upon completion of order.
Ability to read and understand blueprints
Ability to use micrometers, calipers, comparators and gauges
Ability to grind both steel and titanium
Good math and good written and verbal communication skills
Team player committed to working on Saturdays
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred
Must have previous grinding experience
