PMT is a global leader in providing customers with high-performance specialty materials, process technologies and automation, and technologies and materials for petroleum refining, gas processing and petrochemical industries.

UOP Controller role will be responsible for all aspects of accounting (including accounting policy, financial reviews and reporting, controls and processes, and business support) at the UOP Strategic Business Unit of Performance Materials and Technologies (PMT) segment. UOP is a global supplier of process technology, products, engineered systems and technical services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, gas processing and energy industries and is a leader in the research and development of petroleum and petrochemical processing.

As the UOP Controller the ideal candidate will use accounting expertise in revenue recognition and other complex areas such as restructuring, business combinations, contingent liabilities, and internal control and process implementation and operational oversight. The role will use deep accounting expertise in revenue recognition (ASC 606), including project accounting, and other complex areas such as restructuring, business combinations, contingent liabilities, internal control and process implementation, and operational oversight. This position is based in Des Plaines, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago and reports directly into the PMT Global Controller.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead reviews of key non-standard, judgmental, and complex transactions during the monthly close process for projects, services and products businesses
  • Oversee monthly reviews related to project EAC's, reserves, contract assets and liabilities including unbilled, advances and deferred accounts and ensure related internal controls are operating effectively
  • Partner with business CFOs to assess overall business performance on project executions including risk assessment and early warning reporting
  • Partner with ISC Finance leader to strengthen key processes and controls within the global factory footprint of the UOP products businesses
  • Oversee key monthly account reconciliations, journals, reporting schedules
  • L ead analytical, balances sheet, and account reconciliation reviews of UOP reporting entities globally (balance sheet and P&L)
  • Partner with the business in reviewing accounting and financial reporting implications of significant transactions (e.g. complex project accounting, unique customer contracts, etc.)
  • Provide accounting support on complex transactions to senior leadership, including President, General Managers, CFO and Finance Directors
  • Lead pre and post-close process and effectively communicate insights and results to senior management
    Collaborate with the business on strategic initiatives, including identifying cost optimization actions, growth and restructuring opportunities
  • Champion and lead initiatives related to process standardization, automation and internal control improvements
  • Oversee the implementation of corrective action plans related to internal control deficiencies
  • Oversee quarterly and annual external financial reporting processes and deliverables
  • Manage quarterly management representation letter and certification processes
  • Oversee impact assessment and implementation of new accounting standards
  • Oversee accounting, control and process related integration for newly acquired businesses

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years of experience working within a global manufacturing organization
  • 3+ years' experience working within a public firm
  • 4+ years' experience as POC in project accounting
  • 9+ years business controllership/audit experience


  • Experience in multinational public accounting firm (preferably Big 4) with service to mid or large cap public companies or similar role in Corporate Controllers organization at a Fortune 500 Company
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively with the business as a team member
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive process improvement
  • M&A integration and transformation project experience a plus
  • Flexibility on mobility required for future roles
