POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for coordinating and supporting all processes related to the maintenance and process operations of the plant's Utilities equipment (Combined Heat and Power, energy to and from site, boilers, air compressors, water treatment equipment, waste water treatment equipment, pollution control equipment, etc.). The Engineering Services Utilities Manager is directly responsible for leading the Utilities Supervisor and hourly technicians/operators. Total direct and indirect reports for this position exceeds 14+ at the Blacksburg Utilities Co-Op. This position is in Blacksburg SC and reports to Corporate Engineering.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure optimal performance of all utilities equipment and energy to include continuous improvement, downtime reduction, energy consumption reduction, measurement, environmental impact:

- digital drive, PLC, and process control systems

- computer systems and networks

- electrical power distribution and systems

- create standard work audits, layered audits, and appropriate work oversight


  • Maintain appropriate performance reports

  • Establish collaborative internal and external relationships:
    - engineering services team members

-each plant departments

- outside contractors and vendors

- forecast BUC site gas estimates monthly with gas provider


  • Develop, evaluate, and maintain preventative maintenance processes

  • Understand and effectively participate in the plant safety process

  • Coordinate training, developing, and coaching team members:

- Foster a working environment that promotes open communications, teamwork, and individual engagement to accomplish goals and objectives

- Ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner

- Ensure safety rules are clearly understood and followed


  • Develop/implement capital investment projects/budgets

  • Manage maintenance spending and labor to defined budget

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED


  • Bachelor's Degree (preference of Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering focus) or equivalent working experience

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • 5 years minimum experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven skills in leading, coaching, developing, and managing high performing teams

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED


  • Previous experience in a utilities operation

  • Working knowledge of SAP

  • Experience in LEAN/MPS and six sigma principles
