Job Description:

Summary

The Sanford Mental Health Unit of Southern Maine Healthcare is looking for a Group Facilitator to contribute to the quality of care and patient outcomes by offering group therapies with a recovery focus. These programs will contribute to maintaining a safe therapeutic milieu by increasing awareness and providing an outlet for expression of feelings in patients. The Group Facilitator also serves as a resource and role model for volunteers, students, new employees and staff.

The inpatient Behavioral Health Unit in Sanford is a 40 bed, locked unit that provides a 24-hour treatment program designed to provide care for adults ages 18-95 in acute psychiatric crisis. The multidisciplinary team treats individuals experiencing major mental illnesses and addiction related problems. The program includes voluntary and involuntary levels of care.

As a Group Facilitator you will,


  • Organize and facilitate group activities that demonstrate an understanding of the group process

  • Incorporate patient's strengths and make accommodations for diverse populations

  • Introduce patients to strategies for managing their illness with an eye to their own recovery

  • Maintain client records on patient progress

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)


  • Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

  • License/Certifications: N/A

  • Experience: Prior group therapy experience with psychiatric patients.
