Title: Senior Scientist/Principle Scientist (Fixed Term: 3 Years)

Location: Kalamazoo, MI

Zoetis is seeking a talented and experienced in-vivo pharmacologist to contribute to our efforts in Global Therapeutics Research at Zoetis. The successful candidate will support the identification and discovery of new therapeutic approaches to allergic skin disease conditions for dogs and cats as well as asthmatic models for cats. The individual will be expected to independently evaluate appropriate medical literature, create clinical assessment tools, identify and acquire applicable technology and design and implement relevant disease models to assess therapeutic approaches. The development of appropriate protocols, the planning and scheduling of studies, the organization and management of scientific data, and the timely presentation of scientific results will also be expected. The successful candidate will participate in and coordinate studies conducted by outside collaborators or in collaboration with academic institutions. The individual will lead and/or participate in multi-disciplinary teams and will be expected to work in close collaboration with a range of scientists and clinicians across the organization.

A senior in-vivo pharmacologist that has experience in a related discipline such as pain/inflammation and/or allergic dermatitis; disease pathophysiology, internal medicine, pharmacology or pathology/toxicology. Additional desirable experience includes prior experience in drug discovery or development within the pharmaceutical industry. The applicant needs to have a good understanding of; the pathophysiology of important companion animal disease's, ability to conduct hypothesis driven research, how to design and conduct drug efficacy trials and animal behavior. The selected candidate will be expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage time and adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. Some travel may be required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• AD/Pain/itch/Inflammation scholarship in disease models and their application


• Develop understanding of in-vivo mechanism of action of identified targets


• Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines to understand pathophysiology


• Work closely with team leads to identify potential therapeutic substrate


• Directly communicate with external partners for collaborations and outsourcing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Educational background: Minimum BS. in Biology, Animal Sciences or related fields with at least 5 years of relevant experience


• Training or experience in biological sciences focusing on animal models and translation from mouse to companion animals.


• Exposure to Animal Use Protocols and IACUC


• Some experience with supervising small groups with in-vivo experience


• Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently, design experiments with minimal supervision, and able work across teams remotely and face-to-face.


• Experience interacting with CROs or external partnerships


• Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills


• Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook,
