Position description

Position Summary:


  • The Chiller Technician will perform chiller annual preventive maintenance work within a given geographic territory. This will include hands-on work to complete the necessary work within Jones Lang LaSalle standards and guidelines.

  • A focus of the position is identification and implementation of energy savings opportunities within a geographic territory.

  • Quality control audits and inspections will be conducted throughout the territory and production of deficiency reports provided to supervisors.

  • Technical assistance, support in advanced troubleshooting, and hands-on repair guidance will be required in support of local engineering teams within a territory.

Essential Functions:


  • Perform annual and semi-annual preventive maintenance and repair service work on water cooled and air cooled chiller systems including cooling towers and pumps.

  • Conduct energy audits to identify where system and operational changes can be made to decrease the property's energy consumption

  • Provide technical assistance and support to various work teams within a geographic region in order to increase the skills and capabilities of team members

  • Conduct building evaluations and make recommendations so operational improvements can be incorporated

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA)


  • Possess hands on skills and knowledge to complete required repairs and maintenance on a variety of chiller manufacturers, cooling towers, pumps, motors using industry standard tools and in accordance with all codes, laws, and regulations

  • Possess knowledge of codes, laws, and regulations affecting commercial real estate operations with the ability to articulate any deficiencies and make recommendations to remedy such deficiencies

  • Ability to effectively use computers and computer programs (including use of Microsoft Office Suite), skill in use of the internet to navigate to and use web based applications, and ability to use handheld electronic devices.

  • Possess excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

Working Environment:


  • The position is truck based and includes travel to various locations within a specified geography

  • Will require daily interaction with local engineering teams in person, on the phone, and via email in order to perform the job

Minimum Required Education:


  • Minimum of 10 years experience in commercial HVAC service and repairs with a focus on hands-on chiller repair & maintenance

  • Successful completion of vocation degree program, apprenticeship, and/or comparable work experience

  • Possess Universal EPA Certification

Additional Information

Self starter with strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude. Ability to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner to supervisor and clients. After-hours availability is essential (Critical system maintenance is performed during off-hours). Requires working flexible schedules. Must follow established Company practices and procedures and show a high level of safety awareness. Must be able to physically access all spaces and systems to make quality inspection, including roofs and equipment rooms.

Skills / Qualifications

High school graduate or GED. Four-year apprenticeship program or five years of field experience. CFC certification required. Ability to use computers using the Windows-based software environment. Must be able to be on call and to work any shift, weekends and holidays if necessary. Must have valid state drivers license along with appropriate class license if required in performance of job.

Job Location

Must be located in a work territory. Provides immediate response to after-hours emergency callouts to maintain Network Reliability. Close to Critical Facilities
