Job Summary

This opening is for a Corporate Accounting and Reporting position in Santa Ana, CA for the Company's primary operating entity, First American Title Insurance Company, which is a title insurance company in the real estate industry with more than $3 billion in revenue.

This Senior Accountant position is responsible for quarterly and annual financial reporting including the annual financial audits. The accounting and reporting assignments are complex in nature and the position is deadline-driven. It requires strong problem solving skills and the ability to juggle multiple assignments.


Responsibilities:

Performs a key role in the preparation of statutory financial statements (including balance sheet, income statement, equity roll forward and cash flow statement) by recording journal entries, gathering and analyzing GL information, and performing flux analysis.


Primary responsibilities as a Senior Accountant-Quarterly Close:

* Prepares and records complex accounting journal entries by compiling and analyzing financial data received from other GL departments.
* Performs accounting controls by following, completing, and signing-off on control policy and procedures checklists. Conform with all close and reporting policies and procedures and the close calendar.
* Perform account analysis and investigate unusual items by using the tools and computer applications available (Microsoft Excel, HFM, Oracle, Blackline, FSI, etc). The Senior Accountant is expected to be able to effectively use the tools and computer applications within a reasonable time period.
* Establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.
* Assist with the annual external and internal audits. Prepare and complete auditor-requested materials and assigned schedules.
* Contribute to the department with other related duties and any special projects assigned.


Primary responsibilities as a Senior Accountant-Reporting:
* Assist in the completion of the quarterly and annual statutory filings including preparation of financial statement assigned pages and schedules. These will include equity roll forwards, cash flows, and footnotes.
* Prepares variance analysis over the balance sheet and income statement including research of root causes for trend changes.
* Develops tie-out binders which support the numbers and disclosures in the annual audited financial statements.

Job Qualifications:

* 4 year college degree in accounting. Equivalent experience may be considered for substitution.
* 5+ years strong close and financial reporting experience with a company whose annual revenue is $300M+.
* Audit experience in public accounting is highly desirable.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to take on new tasks that have a high level of difficulty.
* The individual will be expected to take ownership of his/her work product and refer to desktop procedures, prior notes, and reviewer comments before working on an assignment.
* Plans sufficiently for large assignments or tasks consistent with the scope of the assignment or task.
* Adheres to deadlines with an understanding that if a deadline has a possibility of being missed, timely communication is made to a member of management.
* Experience in the insurance industry or development of financials statements and related footnotes are a plus.
* Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and at-least intermediate experience with a large ERP and/or accounting system (e.g. Oracle, Hyperion, SAP).
* Experience with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements and related policies and procedures for internal controls over financial reporting.
* Ideal candidate will have excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
* Experience working with internal or external auditors.
