Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Mass Communication invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Multi-platform Journalism beginning August 16, 2021. We seek a teacher-scholar who will teach journalistic practices across multiple platforms such as web, video, print, mobile, and social media, and who will contribute to the research and community engagement mission of UA Little Rock by establishing a program of academic and creative scholarship.

The School of Mass Communication is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in its classes, its journalistic writing, and its productions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural competence in their professional and interpersonal engagement with students, staff, faculty, and members of the public. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institutional policy.



Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience


  • A Doctoral degree in Mass Communication or a related field. ABDs will be considered and are encouraged to apply;

  • Experience in teaching college classes;

  • Experience in teaching online courses;

  • Evidence of scholarship or scholarly potential.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Ability to teach core classes in the School of Mass Communication, in particular, MCOM 3310 Web Principles and Design.

Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Establish and maintain a rigorous program of academic research;

  • Teach courses in our Media Production and Design emphasis;

  • Advise and mentor students;

  • Contribute to our MA program in Mass Communication;

  • Participate in service to the University, community, and profession;

  • Support community engagement activities at the school, college, and university levels;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Evidence of Scholarship in the field of Mass Communication;

  • Demonstrated ability to teach college-level classes in Media Production and Design;

  • Ability to work with students from diverse, often non-traditional backgrounds;

  • Ability to teach online classes at the undergraduate and graduate level;

  • Practical experience in the field of mass communication a plus.
