STATEMENT OF JOB
The SS Machine Operator I reports to the Stainless Steel (SS) Unit Production Supervisor. Duties include performing hydro testing, running buffing equipment, cleaning equipment, equipment trouble-shooting, filling, gassing, spot welding, polishing, labeling, packaging and valve assembly, etc. The company reserves the right to rotate employees to other departments or work assignments within the organization as needed based upon skill set, production needs, etc.

• Submit suggestions to improve safety
• Know responsibilities in the event of an emergency (i.e. what to do in the event of an alarm for fire, chemical spills, tornados, etc.)
• Be a coach to others who are acting unsafely
• Must have Lock-out tags
• Attend and participate in all hazardous and non-hazardous waste trainings.
• Ability to recognize chemical hazardous labels.
• Spill management and clean-up.
• Air shutoff locations.
• Capability to follow satellite accumulation rules and requirements.
• Proficiency to recognize hazardous wastes in your area and manage properly.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 18 years of age and have a HS Diploma or equivalent. Must have reading, writing and simple math skills. Must be able to or willing to learn how to read blue prints. Must be a team-player.

DUTIES
1. Operates medium complex machinery used in the production process, such as automated and semi-automated spot welder, chemical pumps, presses, test equipment, and robotic cells. 
2. Performs sets up, machine adjustments, and routine maintenance on production machinery. 
3. Ensures machines are operating at required capacity and that production requirements are met.   Communicates WIP needs and parts shortages to the lead person, senior operator, or the forklift driver (as appropriate) in a timely manner.
4. Observes machine operation to verify accuracy of machine settings and to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance production. 
5. Assists in preparing and maintaining Scorecards, Gemba Boards, etc. so that performance problems can be identified and resolved. 
6. Maintains equipment and performs preventive maintenance notifying Group Leader/Maintenance personnel if any machines are malfunctioning; assists maintenance team in troubleshooting and equipment malfunctioning diagnostics. 
7. Follows work instructions/ODS’s to assemble cylinders, operate equipment and adjust machines.
8. Monitors quality of cylinders and raw materials throughout the process ensuring that blue prints, code and quality standards are met; scraps out material as needed.
9. Performs first-piece inspections on the final products.
10. Performs assembly, packaging housekeeping and other related duties as may be assigned by the Group Leader or Supervisor.
11. Enters labor hours and quantities in to SAP.
12. Supporting the training and development of peers within the organization.
13. If you are designated as a trainer, you will be responsible for training other Machine Operator I’s on the safe and efficient operations of the position.
