Prepares laboratory specimens for microscopic evaluation by the Pathologist through the use of microtomy, special staining, immunohistochemistry and other appropriate techniques. Requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant science and HT (ASCP), or one (1) year on-the-job training with five (5) year's experience preferred. Six (6) months histology laboratory training preferred.

Education and Experience
The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion an Associate's Degree in a relevant science and HT (ASCP), or minimum of 2 year's experience as a Histology Technician in a Dermatology office. A minimum of two year's experience in a clinical setting preferred. Basic Life Support certification required.
Knowledge & Skills
Requires a solid foundation in sciences - biology, chemistry, math and computer science.
Demonstrated accuracy and precision in cutting, mounting and staining of tissue sections.
Uses judgment to adapt for tissue types, uses chemicals and dyes to stain sections in order to demonstrate various pathological conditions.
Requires excellent organizational skills and reliability.
Comfort with being the point person for matters pertaining to the histology lab.
Demonstrates the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to interact in a highly-effective manner and to maintain positive working relationships.
Demonstrates advanced computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets) and the ability to use the internet.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a medical office setting.
Physical Demands
Subject to exposure to infectious diseases. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods and maintain concentration, precision and accuracy.
