Summary

 

The Dispatcher is responsible for scheduling and delivering of all orders correctly and in a timely manner for various customers with either ready mix concrete or triaxle trucks.  Must have a strong desire to deliver high levels of customer service and build internal and external relationships. Work will be performed per the supervisor's instruction, free from direct supervision, except for more complicated jobs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Adhere to and follow all safety rules and regulations of MSHA/OSHA/DOT and Pennsy Supply, Inc.

  • Conduct daily safety assignments (area inspections, pre-shifts, JSA's, TRACK, etc.)

  • Responsible for own personal safety at all times as well as, maintain the highest standard of safety and quality in all aspects of the job.

  • Support and engage in safety culture, initiatives, and working to create an incident and injury free workplace. 

  • Properly follow all company policies and procedures for a safe working environment, report any problems to the supervisor, dispatch, transportation manager, safety director or Human Resources.

  • Dispatch trucks and develop schedules to optimize efficiency and value for transportation and the other Lines of Business within Pennsy Supply. 

  • Coordinate with sites, crews, sales representatives, CSRs, outside and internal haulers and managers. 

  • Be a positive part of a collaborative, professional, supportive, and high performing team. 

  • Act as customer’s first telephone point of contact for assisting customers with product questions, ordering, order tracking, complaints and problems.

  • Competency with computer and keyboarding skills.

  • Enter complete and accurate customer orders into delivery system.

  • Supervises and coordinates all activities pertaining to orders.

  • Establishes delivery schedules accordingly with plants and trucks.

  • Assign drivers for scheduled deliveries using driver call outs.

  • Understand driver HOS and help maintain compliance.

  • Maintains phone contact with drivers to expedite deliveries.

  • Maintain and utilize Transportation Management System and other applications as needed. 

  • Become highly proficient in our point of sale, TMS and dispatching computer programs. 

  • Develop haul rates as requested. 

  • Proactively monitor the dispatch scorecard and other dispatch reports.

  • Assist driver supervisor in tracking and scheduling of equipment.

  • Assist order takers when queue is overloaded and take calls and place orders.

  • Look up all directions of address on streets and trips.

  • Provide leads to sales.

  • Proactively seek customer customer’s feedback to identify areas of improvement in all operations.

  • Call back customers for feedback and enter into salesforce.

  • Enter all customer or order related issues into salesforce.

  • Monitor scheduling calendars at all times.

  • Answer phones in a pleasant tone and in a timely manner avoiding all missed calls.

  • Back up for dispatching trucks when needed.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and multi task.

  • Excellent phone skills

  • Must be detail oriented and thorough in all job responsibilities.

  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the organization. 

  • Assist in managing Hired Hauler fleet, recruiting and retaining Hired Haulers, and developing business partnerships with them. 

  • Collaborate and support other Lines of Business including Aggregates, HMA, Construction, RMC, Industrial Minerals, and Equipment to create efficiencies, drive down costs and waste, and create opportunities. 

 

Education/Experience

 


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Two years experience preferred but not required.

  • Must submit to a drug screen and criminal background check.
