Job Description:

SYSTEMS PLANNING TEMP 1  -  PLANNING AND ENGAGEMENT

Temp 6 = $13.33/hr

Nature of Work: Assist with project administration, community engagement, development of communications for public distribution, project website updates, coordinate projects within the organization, interface between the City and community, and complete other tasks as assigned. The focus of the Systems Planning Unit is planning for City infrastructure and assets. Assignments may include projects related to transportation, utilities, water resources, economic vitality, environmental protection, climate & sustainability, and resource recovery & solid waste.

Required Qualifications:  


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications. 

  • Detail oriented. Strong organization skills.

  • Availability to attend evening meetings. Able to attend public meetings held at City facilities, project site, and other community meeting spaces.

  • Comfortable working among multiple different projects and topics. 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license. The candidate must have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as he/she may be required to drive a vehicle for local travel. 

Desired Qualifications: Some college level coursework completed toward a degree in any of the following areas, or other related field: Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Public Policy, Public Administration, Natural Resources, Communications, Public Relations. Some experience using Adobe Creative suite preferred.

Work Schedule: This 10-month temporary position will primarily consist of routine office hours but will include some evening meetings and events. Total commitment: maximum of 29 hours per week; typically 15-20 hours per week.

Duties entail the ability to work at a computer keyboard and on the telephone for extended periods of time. Operating standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. Move and lift objects up to 20 pounds such as mail, files and supplies.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
