Job Description:

Leads the planning, designing, purchasing, and implementation of changes to the manufacturing equipment and systems while leading and co-leading teams.

Leads the work for specific projects to create and implement all aspects of a manufacturing processes to ensure safety requirements, manufacturing goals, business goals, and product specifications are met.

Leads by applying the knowledge or use of manufacturing principles and practices to improve manufacturing equipment and processes.

Impacts the work by utilizing continuous improvement tools, following the Cummins standards, and leading the development of manufacturing standards and working methods.

Leads the communications with and influences key external stakeholders, business leaders, and functional members.

Works with internal and external resources on specific project assignments.

Leads the advanced knowledge of manufacturing principles and practices as they are applied to Cummins.

Maintains relationships and coaches key stakeholders.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university, or equivalent degree required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.







  • Demonstrated 5-10 years successful implementation of New Product start-up solutions/equipment in an ISO 9000/automotive style company 

  • Execute VPI Mfg. responsibilities for new product introduction (preparing required VPI documents to support M Review milestones)

  • Interact with product engineering teams to ensure designs meet basic manufacturing principles (conduct DFA reviews)

  • Generate Manufacturing strategy for new products within SEP facility (layouts, process flow, systems integration)

  • Define equipment needs (assembly equipment, torque & assembly fail safe strategy, quotes, purchase, installation, commissioning, documentation, training), using a PFMEA approach to manage risk

  • Lead creation of process documentation for all processes

  • Conduct HSE reviews for all equipment and processes, ensuring assembly strategy complies with all Corporate & SEP Safety standards

  • Lead team to define new product test requirements, strategy, test system hardware / software, and fail safes

  • Expert knowledge of PLC controls and DC torque tools is not required; however, a general understanding or basic history of operation with PLC/DC equipment, programming, and troubleshooting equipment faults and failures is preferred. This includes understanding of manufacturing engineering processes, plant controls, and MES systems. 

  • Demonstrate creativity in solutions and ability to facilitate cross functional teams in driving toward a solution in a timely manner

  • Experience with Pro E / Windchill and AutoCad to support new product assembly modeling, equipment acquisition, and facility layouts

  • Advanced knowledge of Torque processes & associated fail safing

  • Familiarity with SBM's, IMS Structure (MSBM / ASBN Codes), Engineering Releases and Deviations

  • Experience in the design & acquisition of custom assembly equipment, lift fixtures, tooling,  and gauges

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, written and oral, including technical material

  • Role may include supervision of exempt/hourly Manufacturing Engineering staff within their assigned area while also mentoring for less experienced engineers and exempt/hourly direct reports.  

  • Role may require flexible hours to accommodate launch activities.
