Manager, Benefits at Inmar in Winston Salem, North Carolina

Job Description:

The manager partners with the director in the administration of associate benefits in all company operations. The manager provides support, guidance and assistance to associates in all locations for all associate benefit plans. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for strategic initiatives, such as assessing the competitiveness of Inmar’s benefit program, ensuring most effective cost control procedures are being considered, and regularly reviewing, approving the overall benefit policies and plans. The manager will work cross-functionally with multiple departments, such as payroll, finance, associate relations, etc. to ensure benefits plans are accurately administered.

Primary Accountabilities:

Strategic (20%)


  • Administers associate benefits programs such as retirement, medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, life, disability, and accidental death plans. 


  • Evaluates and compares existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information. 


  • Plans, develops, and/or participates in area and industry surveys, analyzes results of surveys and develops specific recommendations for review by leadership. 


  • Develops cost control procedures to ensure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to company and associate.  


  • Partners with HR and Finance leaders to manage the cost of all benefits programs.


  • Partners with a third party provider to accurately administer COBRA.


  • Partners with other departments to implement communication materials for all plans and associates utilizing an electronic format.  Revises and reissues all communications material on benefit plans when appropriate.


  • Designs and conducts associate benefit training for all associates. Advises and counsels leadership and associates on existing benefits. 


  • Prepares and executes, with legal consultation, benefit documentation such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies. Instructs insurance carriers, trustees, and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in the benefit program. Ensures prompt and accurate compliance. 


  • Ensures company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act. Supervises preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies. 


  • Ensures that existing and new benefit programs are adaptable to standardized computer and reporting systems. Develops benefit information and statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers, and management. 


  • Maintains contact in person, and by phone or mail, with vendors, associates, and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all associates. 


  • Supervises maintenance of human resources records. Supervises maintenance of enrollment, application, and claims records for all benefit plans. 


Analytical (20%)


  • Reviews and analyzes changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits, and reports necessary or suggested changes to leadership. Coordinates company benefits, with government sponsored programs. 


  • Utilize data from benefits software and tools to analyze, create standard reporting and make recommendations on programs using the data.


Leadership (40%)


  • Oversee and supervise the work of direct reports


  • Ensure all tasks are completed on time.


  • Ensures all benefit inquiries are resolved according to ‘time to respond’ goals in a quick, equitable, courteous manner. 


Project Management (20%)


  • Manage projects such as annual enrollment, implementation of new benefit plans, etc.


  • Ensure all deadlines are met


Required Qualification:


  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years experience in Benefits Administration, or a master's degree in Human Resource Management and four (4) years experience in Benefits Administration, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to complete the major responsibilities/essential functions of the position.


  • Requires 2-5 years of supervisory experience


  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) certification or the ability to obtain certification.


  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in MS Office Suite especially Microsoft Exce and HRIS, preferably the Workday platform


  • The ability to travel up to 15%.

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft Office and Google products.


  • Knowledge of all federal, state and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee benefits.


  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data. 


  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, comfortable with ambiguity


  • Experience with Workday is a major plus!
