POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: 

 

The Engineering intern will work in the Herbalife Innovation & Manufacturing (H.I.M.) facility in Winston-Salem, N.C. The goal is to provide a structured internship experience offering the participant work experience through attractive and rewarding assignments relative to their field of study, a vibrant intern community, and a fun Herbalife Nutrition journey. The position will work closely with the Sr. Industrial Engineer at the plant and attend scheduled meeting/conference calls with mentor.

 

As part of the onboarding activities, the intern will attend safety and new hire orientation, meet and greet department heads, spend time understanding the department function within the facility, and spend time observing and learning how the manufacturing process flows.

 

Providing opportunities for career enrichment, the intern will attend various plant meetings, bi-weekly meeting with mentor, Town Hall meeting, and discuss Career and Goal aspirations with mentor.

 

The internship will also provide growth opportunities with projects that will enhance his understanding of the manufacturing process and to provide a learning opportunity working with teams.

 

By the completion of the internship period, the intern will leave with some key learnings:

 

• Understand how and when to use set of improvement techniques/tools for problem solving.


• Understand how SCADA and data collection is a key to continuous improvement.


• Develop, organize, and execute a plan for projects.


• Develop engineering standards.


• Develop plan for continuous improvement.


• Develop and present a final report.

 

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: 

 

• Develop engineering standards for Small Slant Cone Blenders.


• Execute protocol to confirm SCADA data and screens.


• Review and optimize Gemco Blenders Cycle Time.


• Work on High Speed Packaging Line (P5) OEE optimization.


• Review and develop “Staging” engineering standards.


• Develop standard work instructions for pre-mix blending.


• Perform root cause analysis and reduce packaging capper downtime.


• Develop Kanban replenishment system for bottles and shippers.


• Participate on Lean Six Sigma Projects and perform other duties as assigned.


• Ability to work a 40 hr. / week schedule, working hours: 8:00am–5:00 pm, Monday–Friday.

Experience:

• 0–1 years of related Engineering (internship) experience

Education:   

 

• A current junior or senior level student in an undergraduate or graduate program pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree majoring in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations or other related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior documentation experience


• Strong statistical background with SPC, statistical software (Minitab, or others)


• Computer skills including MS Visio, and Process Mapping, MS Project, SQL Database


• Six Sigma Training


• Lean and 5S Training


• 1 year of Industrial Engineering, manufacturing, operations, and/or supply chain
