Job Description:


  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Reports to the Director, Clinical Informatics. Possesses expert knowledge of adult learning principles in the creation and management of robust training programs. Responsibilities include the management and development of electronic health record training programs and the staff and resources required to support those programs and the customers they serve. Also responsible for the management and development of the Clinical Informatics Educators who train and support Beacon's system users. Responsibilities include management and coordination of the work of the clinical informatics education team and the processes required to support Cerner end users, as well as organization communication and technical troubleshooting and acting as a liaison with end-user departments. Assists in establishing and monitoring key quality metrics and best practice patient care outcomes. Supports clinical system governance throughout all Beacon facilities, including acute care hospitals and Beacon physician offices. Serves as a role model to the Clinical Informatics Educators. Performs the "Essential Functions" of the Clinical Informatics Educator position as required, including provisioning of end-user support and classroom instruction.

  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS

    • Education and Experience
      • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in a clinical, Computer Science, education or related field from an accredited college or university. One to three years of progressively-responsible experience in a clinical, business, educational, or information systems department. One to two years of supervisory/managerial experience is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience providing training with those software and hardware products regularly used by Beacon Health System (BHS).

      • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of adult learning principles and educational fundamentals to ensure end user success in system utilization.


      • Requires the management and leadership skills necessary to effectively develop and support assigned staff and customers.


      • Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of Cerner and how Beacon operational areas interact with and impact each other in a computerized environment.


      • Requires the analytical, problem solving, and organization skills necessary to identify problems and facilitate the delivery of solutions in a timely manner and design training programs. Also requires the ability to work independently.


      • Requires a solid understanding of and compliance in Information Systems departmental policies, procedures and practices.


      • Demonstrates skill in the creation, execution, tracking, and management of system training and end user support requirements.


      • Demonstrates supportive, effective leadership to assigned staff and ensure their individual development in meeting job requirements.


      • Demonstrates the leadership skills necessary to elicit cooperation and support, as well as the ability to work effectively with users who have various levels of computer skills.


      • Demonstrates the interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to communicate effectively with staff and physicians to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Also requires the ability to pro-actively approach others regarding their level of understanding and educational needs.


      • Demonstrates the ability to assess training needs and requires the various skills necessary (i.e., negotiating, persuading, counseling, etc.) to provide effective training. Also demonstrates knowledge of adult education techniques and an interest in teaching others.


      • Requires proficient computer skills and the ability to utilize various software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access, etc.) and an understanding of the system capabilities and limitations.




    • Working Conditions

      • Works in an office environment.


      • May experience some mental/visual fatigue due to continued use of computer equipment.


      • Requires the ability to travel to various Beacon sites to support end-users.


      • Work schedule may vary to meet the training and support needs of the various areas served.




    • Physical Demands
      • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to sit, stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time, lift, hold and carry objects weighing up to 30 pounds, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
