Cost Accounting Manager at ADTRAN, Inc. in Huntsville, Alabama

Job Description:

The Manager, Cost Accounting will provide oversight to the cost accounting function. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining standard cost data on the ERP system, monitoring changes in BOM costs and ensuring appropriate overhead allocations, system generated cost integrations, calculating and documenting adjustments to inventory valuation, gross margin analysis, warranty expense accruals, costs-of-sales fluctuations, and excess and obsolete material provisions. The Manager, Cost Accounting will supervise one direct report and coordinate work with the cost team in Europe.

This position reports to the VP, Corporate Controller.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain standard cost data on ERP system, including updates of labor rates and overhead rates

Monitor changes in BOM costs and the impacts of purchase price variances

Monitor system generated cost integration and inventory adjustment transactions and record corrections as needed

Maintain automate accounting instructions for Operations transactions in ERP

Calculate and document adjustments related to inventory valuation, inventory in transit, excess or obsolete materials, warranty accruals, purchase accounting adjustments and other cost items

Forecast other costs-of-goods sold

Respond to inquiries from senior management and manufacturing operations related to standard cost, reserves, and inventory valuation issues

Prepare journal entries and participate in General Ledger closing

Supervise one direct report, and coordinate work with cost team in Europe

Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company.

Basic Qualifcations:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required.

5+ years of high-level standard cost experience required, preferably in manufacturing environment.

Experience with GAAP and income tax reporting rules relative to inventory valuation, cost of goods sold, and business acquisitions is required.

Working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley and key accounting controls in the inventory and standard cost area is required.

Proficiency with automated standard cost and ERP systems.

Limited travel is expected in this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

CPA preferred.

Previous experience with electronic component and outside subcontracting preferred, along with knowledge of ERP software is preferred.

Intercompany global company experience preferred.
