The Equipment Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for supervising a team of 5-6 individuals responsible for maintaining and Illumina’s cGMP high-volume manufacturing lines in San Diego, California. This role is responsible for the supporting Illumina’s Flow Cell and MicroArray production lines, residing within Manufacturing Technical Operations (MTO). The role is looking for a highly collaborate individual with experience in Operations and collaboration across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, R&D and Process Engineering.
Work experience in the Medical Device and/or Semiconductor industry would be an advantage. The Equipment Engineering Supervisor will be a subject matter expert with deep experience leading the team to accomplish routine operations, continuous improvement, and projects with energy and enthusiasm. They will work in a dynamic team-oriented environment that supports multiple operations and technologies helping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipeline in a reliable and sustainable manner.
This is a 3rd Shift Schedule: 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. This is a typical schedule but may be adjusted within 3rd Shift hours to support Manufacturing hours.
Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership to a team maintaining the following process/tool sets: Lithography, CMP, Dicing, Wet Chemistry, and Die Packaging
Responsible for tactical and day-to-day operations related to tool troubleshooting, maintenance, calibration, and onboarding.
Provide guidance on maintenance/troubleshooting/verification strategies including but not limited to: techniques/methods/tools used, setting specifications, failure testing, data analysis
Troubleshoot production line issues related to yield, quality and throughput
Interface and coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, R&D, Quality, among other departments to ensure maintenance and project activities are on time and meet performance goals

Requirements:
Work experience in high volume medical device, biotech, or semiconductor industries is highly desired
Knowledge/experience leading Equipment Engineering Teams consisting of both Technicians and Engineers.
Performance Management activities include setting performance standards, ensuring employees have appropriate and realistic job goals, providing ongoing feedback about employees’ performance, conducting performance appraisals, including assessing how the employees have performed and how they can improve their performance, developing performance improvement plans if employees’ performance is not adequate and providing rewards for employee accomplishments.
High level problem solving and reasoning skills required
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, coach and mentor direct reports required
Experience working in an ISO13485 or FDA certified environment is desirable. Experience in high-volume production in a high-tech consumables industry is desirable
Experience in production support and/or process development is required. Experience with product development processes and project management skills is desirable
High level problem solving and reasoning skills required
Experience working with SAP or an equivalent ERP system
Good interdepartmental communication, influence and documentation skills are required. Detail-oriented, highly organized and ability to multi-task are essential.
Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals while working across departments is required. Willingness to flex working hours to support initiatives/company priorities.
Experience/Education:
B.S./M.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience is required
Typically has 5+ years of direct work experience
2+ years of people management in an engineering/maintenance and/or related operations field
