Summary of Role:
Manage the AICPA’s efforts in the area of governmental accounting and auditing including the performance of state and local government financial statement audits and compliance audits. Position focuses on emerging issues and related advocacy activities for the benefit of CPAs, government professionals, and ultimately the public interest. Work closely with senior partners in accounting firms, senior government executives, various industry experts, standard setters, and regulators
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
Serve as an AICPA subject matter expert on governmental accounting and auditing matters, both internally and externally.
Work with AICPA’s Governmental Audit Quality Executive Committee and/or the AICPA State and Local Government Expert Panel to identify emerging accounting, auditing, and regulatory issues.
Play a large advocacy role by developing and/or maintaining the AICPA’s relationship with the GASB, federal regulators (e.g., HHS, Education, HUD, etc.), OMB, GAO, SEC (on municipal securities), and various state bodies and relevant other professional associations (e.g., GFOA, NASACT, NACUBO, etc.), and influencing and providing feedback on exposure documents.
Promote governmental audit quality by (1) developing practice tools and aids, alerts, Web events, articles, and other resources; (2) keeping members informed of current developments; and (3) creating and maintaining content on the GAQC Web site.
Support other AICPA professional teams (e.g., Auditing Standards Board, Technical Hotline, Engagement and Learning Innovation, Conferences, Publications, Peer Review, and Journal of Accountancy, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Strong working knowledge of GASB GAAP, GAAS, Government Auditing Standards, and Uniform Guidance requirements
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Capable of dealing effectively and efficiently with a diverse group of individuals, including members, GASB staff and Board members, regulators, and other AICPA team members

Required Experience, Qualifications & Education:
Minimum 7-8 years of current (or recent past) public accounting or similar experience in governmental auditing and accounting
Bachelor’s degree
CPA
Preferred Experience, Qualifications & Education:
Prefer experience in performing audits of governmental entities including state and local financial statement audits, single audits, and other compliance audits.
