Job Description:

Position Summary

The Lead Material Specialist maintains the warehouse and stores stock in all Material Operations areas. This position reports to the Material Operations Supervisor within respective BlueCity to ensure adequate supply of materiel is maintained for workload. The Lead Specialist also delegates, leads and guides the daily work of Material Specialists within the operation.

Essential Responsibilities


  • Lead, guide and approve the work of Material Specialist to ensure compliancy within the Materials team

  • Reviews performance and assigns daily tasks of the Material Specialists within their respective BlueCity

  • Occasionally acts as the Supervisor when Supervisor is off duty, on Paid Time Off (PTO), or away from the BlueCity.

  • Responsible to train and assign work to Materiel Specialist within their BlueCity; trains Crewmembers one-on-one and reviews all daily functions and activities.

  • Visits other Blue Cities to provide training and support as needed.

  • Maintain inventory accuracy and Dangerous Goods documentation utilizing inventory control system.

  • Conducts inventory audits, creates monthly reports, and maintains Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration and Travel Certificates Standards.

  • Research and gather data utilizing various programs to conduct daily briefings regarding workload, safety issues and operational status.

  • Schedule crewmembers as the operation requires.

  • Perform duties including receiving, binning, and shipping of materials.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma

  • One (1) year experience in materiel specialist/warehousing

  • Pass and maintain rating and be able to drive forklifts (4 (four) K to 18 (eighteen) K) tugs, trucks, and other vehicles

  • Successfully pass the Materials and General Maintenance Manual (GMM) training courses. Depending on location you may be required to pass an International Air Transport Association (IATA) or Department of Transportation (DOT) approved Hazardous Materiel Training Course and maintain recurrent training of the course

  • Ability to use handheld two way radios, headsets and/or phone

  • Available for overnight travel (50%)

  • Valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States

  • Able to work flexible shifts, travel and/or work variable hours including holidays and weekends

  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge for all Blue Materiel cities.

  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record that meets JetBlue Airways' insurance standards

  • Depending on location, may need to acquire and maintain a United States Customs Clearance

  • Pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test

  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications


  • Associate's Degree in aviation, finance, business or related

  • One (1) year leadership experience

  • Solid team and people skills

  • Ability to guide and attend to the needs of the support team and promote the JetBlue values

Crewmember Expectations:


  • Regular attendance and punctuality

  • Available to respond on short-notice

  • Well groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance

  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must be appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun

  • Promote JetBlue's #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue's Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue's confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))

  • Adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls

  • Upholding JetBlue's safety performance metric goals and understanding how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Equipment:


  • Computer and other office equipment

  • Inventory Control System, i.e. TRAX

  • All types of Ground Support Equipment: trucks, tugs, box truck, forklifts, (all types up to 35K)

  • Packing Machine equipment

  • Small and large weighing scales

  • Part storage system equipment

  • Other equipment when needed in support of logistics and aircraft support

Work Environment:


  • Work may be outdoors with seasonal weather

  • Able to work irregular shifts (i.e., midnight, days, weekends, and holidays)

  • Work outdoors on the aircraft ramp side and/or the hangar with elevated noise levels

  • Elevated noise levels in terminal area and outdoor conditions

Physical Effort:


  • Position requires strenuous physical work. Heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently. (Heavy)
