The Human Health & Performance Systems Group focuses on objective, technology-based human-centered solutions to measure, model and modify cognitive and physiological function for enhancement, sustainment, or recovery. Our goal is to deliver mission-focused technologies to ensure the human component is successful. This is accomplished through four broad technical areas: health and resilience monitoring, trauma care, enhanced communications, and human-machine teaming. Research in all areas includes capability gap analysis, advanced sensing, machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, biologically-based modeling, prototyping, system integration, and field testing of systems to monitor the human state, predict outcomes, and intervene to improve health and performance. Typical goals include increasing physical, cognitive, and psychological performance and resilience of end users in their operational environments; measuring, modeling, and modifying the brain to mitigate neurotrauma and neurodegeneration of end users after exposure; and developing human-machine interfaces for enhanced end user performance and communication within groups. Our highly interdisciplinary group draws on skills from biology, physiology, cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, biosignal processing, biomedical engineering, machine learning and artificial intelligence, speech and hearing science, computer science, physics, and medical research areas. This skill base, combined with close partnering with clinicians, academic researchers, and industry, allow us to meet a wide range of sponsor human-centered needs. Primary government sponsors are in the Departments of Defense, IARPA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.

The Human Health & Performance Systems Group focuses on fast-paced innovative research and is seeking a goal-oriented Business Manager to join their leadership team who will thrive in that environment. The Business Manager will manage the financial and administrative operations with a focus on facilitating the group's technical execution through maintaining current innovative processes in place and continuing to improve these processes. The candidate will manage the group's complex financial portfolio including tracking the funding, planning and financial execution of all programs, and other sources of funding flowing into and out of the group. The candidate will develop and maintain detailed funding and execution plans for all sources of funding as well as assisting in preparation of various grant submissions. The candidate will develop and maintain a detailed situational awareness ofthe group's funding and execution and provide actionable data to support technical management's decision making. The candidate will actively pursue process improvement and work to add value to the group's operations including assuming responsibility for the majority of non-technical decision making related to group finance, procurement, and administration. Specific responsibilities include cost estimating, budget preparation, program/WBS creation, monitoring performance, internal reporting, managing expiring funds, buy back preparation/analysis and program closeouts. The incumbent will also be interfacing with sponsor counterparts on a regular basis. The incumbent will supervise and direct the work of the group's administrative assistants and Assistant/Associate Business Manager,and will function as the team leader for all group financial, procurement and administrative activities. Additional responsibilities include space management, procurement management, property management, and other miscellaneous tasks.

Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Business, finance or related field

  • 5-8 years applicable experience beyond degree

  • Advanced Skills in Microsoft Office Suite (esp. Excel, Outlook)

  • A solid understanding of financial and government processes

  • Proven track record pursuing process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency

  • Strong analytical and estimating techniques

  • Ability to analyze, create and present financial results/reports

  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance is required.

Preferred Skills and Experience:


  • Master's degree in Business or related field

  • Experience working in research & development environment or government office

  • SAP Hana

  • SAP Business Objects BI Suite
