Our Life Insurance division is actively seeking atalentedDirector of Data Science(this originally said Director of Advanced Analytics - which do you prefer?) to join ourgrowing Advanced Analytics team.

Asa Director of Data Science, you will have an opportunity to impact Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by developing and defining the Advanced Analytics area in the Life Insurance Division.This is a new role that will work with key stakeholders, mentor two senior data scientists in Advanced Analytics, help coordinate with offshore resources and collaborate with technical teams based in California and Virginia.

While our team aims to hire at the Director level, candidates who meet most but not all requirements are encouraged to apply. Actual job title and offer will be based on experience and skillset.

How You'll Contribute:


  • Provide peer review for advanced analytics projects throughout the life insurance division as well as mentorship for analytics practitioners.

  • Help set the AI/ML strategy for the life insurance division. Define and evangelize best practices.

  • Hands-on developmentof some of the most complex AI/ML models and pipelines

  • Participate in ongoing monitoring, governance, and risk management.

Factors for Success:


  • 8+ years' experience in data science or AI/ML

  • Love of coaching, mentorship, and collaboration

  • Solid business acumen to put analytics in the appropriate context while identifying key metrics that measure and drive long term growth

  • Demonstrated familiarity with machine learning algorithms and techniques (deep learning, decision trees, etc.), experience and knowledge of statistical modeling techniques (GLM, logistic regression, etc.), and experience with common machine learning and cloud libraries (scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, etc.).

  • Solid software engineering and pipeline building skills

  • Proven track record of solving real business problems through analytics, especially in insurance and finance

  • Solid communication skills. Explaining difficult AI/ML concepts to business stakeholders and incorporating their feedback.

  • MLOps experience, deep knowledge and understanding of AI/ML tools and techniques
