Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Maintenance Mechanic III is to provide technical support for manufacturing equipment (Softgel or Unit Dose), Facilities and the Preventative Maintenance Program. The individual will possess additional skills, expertise and qualifications over a Mechanic II. Individual should have advanced proficiency and expertise with multiple equipment and/or systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Responsible to keep the facility, production equipment and all support equipment in safe and operational working condition according to OEM and OSHA guidelines.

  • Respond to all floor calls in a timely manner and complete tasks quickly and thoroughly.

  • Maintain up-time / downtime targets and develop plans to improve.

  • Trouble-shooting problems and recommend solutions or improvements necessary to restore line operations. Seeks permanent solutions to identified root causes.

  • Complete assigned work orders (Preventative/Corrective Maintenance) in a timely basis and support prioritization of tasks for other mechanics.

  • Complete the Preventative Maintenance Program (PM) including relevant documentation. Design PM’s and schedules work in coordination with supervisor.

  • Maintain equipment maintenance logs and documentation in accordance with SOP and cGMP guidelines;

  • Identify and complete process improvements initiatives including engineering and construction projects.

  • Work with auditors, vendors, suppliers as needed.

  • Maintain inventory of spare parts and critical equipment. Audit systems as necessary along with sourcing options.

  • Researches and obtains quotes for equipment, parts and services as needed.

  • Lead the training of other employees.

  • Responsible to comply with all Company policies and procedures, including safety programs.

  • Perform set-ups or changeovers of equipment as necessary for production schedule;

  • Maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics as required.

  • May coordinate equipment alterations (i.e part fabrication) and equipment installation.

  • Any other assigned tasks or duties, might require overtime and weekend work as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, and/or abilities required for the job:


  • Strong knowledge and experience with Dietary Supplement manufacturing and/or packaging equipment.

  • Strong mechanical background and the ability to assess problem areas and make necessary repairs.

  • Strong problem solving skills and be able to work independently or in teams.

  • A technical background and working knowledge of and mechanical and electrical systems that able to assess problem areas and make necessary repairs.

  • Experience with various equipment / systems such as: HVAC / Dehumidification System, Plumbing, Pumps, Rotary equipment, Boilers, Power tools, Welding and Fabrication and machine shop equipment. May have multiple certifications in above equipment / systems.

  • Proficient skills in reading, writing, and speaking in English;

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills and basic math skills.

  • Effective planning & organizing skills; ability to handle multiple task/duties.

  • Proficient PC skills (Microsoft Word, Excel).

  • Attention to detail (proofreading work, forms, reports, drawings, schematics, etc).

  • Knowledge of Dietary Supplement cGMP and 21 CFR Part 111.

  • Ability to troubleshoot on PLC control and understand ladder logic schematics is preferred.

  • Ability to maintain positive and professional working relationships.

  • Ability to comply, interpret and support Company policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of various manufacturing, maintenance and facilities support equipment.

SELECTION GUIDELINES

The appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are achievable through the following combination of education, work experience and training:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED Certificate; and

  • Vocational or trade school with certifications or apprenticeship training preferred;

  • Experience in an FDA regulated industry is preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years of related maintenance and mechanical experience; or

  • Any combination of experience, education, and training that provides the level of knowledge, skills, and experience needed to successful perform the job.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

The essential functions of this job require the employee to perform the following physical activities during the course of work:


  • Communicate orally with management, employees, co-workers, vendors, suppliers and the general public by telephone, in person, in one-on-one or group settings.

  • Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time during the course of work shift.

  • Routinely required to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, and reach, in the performance of job function.

  • Requires the essential use of hands, speech, eyesight, and hearing.

  • Lifting limitations for this position: 50 lbs.

  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus as needed.

  • Periods of hot, humid, and dusty environment.

  • Noise level for this work environment is typically moderate to high.
